Mary Dalton
BIOGRAPHY

I love children. My writing is geared to that fact. I write my books with two factors in mind, to write a story that is fun to read, and to teach a lesson at the same time. I have four grandsons with whom I test my books. It is my belief that every child can reach their full potential with encouragement and leadership!

Mary Dalton Interview On 02, Jun 2021

"Children's Book Author, Mary Dalton writes stories for modern-day children to help them reach their full potential with encouragement and leadership. Her first book, "Rainbow's Promise" is about a caterpillar that is the last in his class to receive his wings. Her books are fun to read and teach wonderful life lessons to the little readers at the same time."
What is a childhood memory that makes you smile?

The simple way of life

Since how long have you been living in a small county in Virginia called Henry?

Most of my life.

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?

No because as a child I didn’t like reading. I thought it was boring. I did not take up reading as a hobby until I was an adult. Although, I have always had a great imagination.

What inspired you to write stories for the modern-day child?

The same reasons I mentioned above. I wanted children to learn to enjoy reading early, so that it will carry them to adulthood.

What are the challenges of being a children's book author?

Getting your book marketed, deciding which way to go with publishing. Also, if you are a children’s author finding a good reasonable illustrator.

What challenges did you face while writing your first book, "Rainbow's Promise"?

Understanding the publishing business, while trying to find someone who would believe in my book.

Why did you decide to republish Rainbow's Promise in a hardback 8X10 changing it's title to Rainbow Learns to Fly How it all started?

The first was changed to Rainbow’s Promise How it all Started. Rainbow Learns to Fly is the second in the series. I wanted it in a hardback and decided to change the name for the change in publishing.

How did you begin writing The Rainbow series?

I had this little story in my mind that I just couldn’t shake. My daughter encouraged me to write it down. When I did, the story just flowed. I was able to write the 4-book series of Rainbow’s Promise.

Who inspired the character of Georgia in "Clarksdale's Secret Santa"?

Georgia is the granddaughter of my brother. He was a firefighter for many years.

What percentage of your daily writing do you end up not using in published works?

Very little, if I feel inspired about a subject, I write a little down so that I don’t forget and come back to it later.

What are your hobbies apart from writing?

I love to read, mostly mysteries. I have four grandsons so I spend as much time with them as I can.

What is a piece of helpful advice for people who are interested in writing children's books? Write about something that interests you.

Don’t write when you are not in the mood because it is a waste of time. Believe in yourself!

Have your two grown children, Brent and Amanda read any of your stories?

Yes, they are my biggest fans along with my grandsons.

Which is the next book that you are writing? When is it due for release?

I am writing my first novel for teens. THE CLOUD will be out in a few months.

How has your experience with AllAuthor been?
