BIOGRAPHY

Rev. Terrance Rollerson grew up in the Bronx of New York and southern California and moved to Minnesota, where he earned a BA in Physical Education with an emphasis on corporate fitness from Bethel University. During his college years, he volunteered with Young Life, a ministry that reaches out to high school students, which eventually led to taking on the role of Area Director for St. Paul. It was during this time that Terrance felt God’s call into ministry.

While earning a Master of Divinity at Luther Seminary, Terrance served a couple of different churches as a youth director, minister of pastoral care,

From 2000 - 2007 he pastored his first church on the east side of St. Paul, hoping to help the church better reflect the diverse community that surrounded it. During that time, he founded God’s Closet, a free clothing store serving as many as 5000 adults and children a year.

In 2007, he planted The Compass Church on the east side of St. Paul. The vision was to be a church that was intentionally multi-ethnic in the heart of an urban community. That same passion for multi-ethnic urban ministry led to a friendship with Pastor Andy Gray and an eventual partnership with The Urban Refuge. After a year of working together and facing some
challenges as a small congregation, the pastors believed the Lord was leading them to work together more significantly.

In the fall of 2015, Rev. Terrance became a full-time member of the leadership team at Urban Refuge as co-pastor. He has brought help and support to Urban Refuge with pastoral counseling, multi-ethnic ministry experience, and small-group leadership. Terrance has a passion for multi-ethnic urban ministry alongside a deep desire to see people grow in a relationship with Christ as Lord through Biblical pastoral life coaching.

In 2018, He moved to Detroit, MI, to be the Sr. Pastor at a diverse urban church. In 2021 he moved back to Minnesota and currently serves as the Director of Intercultural Engagement and Belonging (Diversity Officer) for the University of Northwestern St. Paul. He also fills his time as an adjunct faculty and shepherding pastor at New City of Nations Church.

Terrance and Michelle have enjoyed married life since 1992 and are blessed to have two children, Micayla and Elijah.

"Introducing an extraordinary new voice in the realm of religion and spirituality. Meet Terrance J. Rollerson,, a captivating writer who has recently released his debut book, Broken Yet Called in this profound genre. He grew up on both the East and West coast. With a deep understanding of theological studies and a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary, Terrance brings a wealth of knowledge and spiritual insight to his writing."
What city/town did you grow up in? What is the earliest memory you can remember?

I grew up on both the East and West coast. From age 0-14, I lived in New York on the south side of the Bronx, and from 14 - 19, I lived in Riverside, California.

Was there ever a time where you never liked to read? How did you get into reading?

I never really liked reading. I have dyslexia, so reading has always been a lot of work for me. Reading is important and gives the power to grow in so many ways.

What made you decide to study Physical Education?

A good portion of my life was spent as an athlete, playing football and running track in both high and college. I wanted to use my degree to help others be their best athlete.

What did you learn while volunteering with Young Life?

The lesson I learned from volunteering was service. Serving others has grown to be a central theme in my life.

How do you learn to write a novel? How do you get started? Is there a format or a set of rules and procedures to follow?

There are many different writing systems a person can follow. It was about the message I wanted to deliver to the hearts of the people that would read my book.

When you write your own book, how do you check to determine if your title has not been previously used already?

This is a very good question that I do not have a clear answer to. I had a very specific theme about brokenness and how to move past it. We did some internet searches of the title.

When writing "Broken Yet Called", did you plan each chapter or just wrote page by page?

I wrote page by page, and I bounced from chapter to chapter.

Do you write your rough draft in pencil or on a computer?

I am a computer person all the way. With my dyslexia, it is helpful to be able also to speak the word vs. just typing.

What stands out most to you on a book cover? Do you prefer symbols like a crown and a few words or a scene with your favorite characters?

What I hope to see on a cover is something that gives me a clue about the book.

If you could create one holiday, what would you create?

I would like there to be a national day of gumbo.

What are some spiritual novels or short stories that can help us in building our inner strength and faith?

Tales of Faith, Molly Ordway / The Best Christian Short Stories by Bret Lott

Are you working on anything new at the moment? If so, when can we expect its release or publication?

I am currently working on a devotional about growing your faith in God.
