Roshan Bhondekar Interview On 10, Mar 2017

"Motivational speaker and international author Mr. Roshan Bhondekar started out as a simple blogger with the intention to help and encourage people to take control of difficult situations and dilemmas. Even as a child, he always aspired to be a motivational speaker and author and is currently the vice president of HOPE INDIA-NGO, which he hopes to make known on an international level. The major source of his inspiration and motivation are his parents who taught him to ‘help others to grow better’. Growing up as the oldest in a middle class family and struggling with problems in college has given him a lot of courage and positive attitude to handle any difficult storm. He enjoys meditating and maintains an active lifestyle (he loves cricket) and is also on his way to becoming a Bollywood film writer/director. He tries to write whenever he has free time, preferably from 10 PM to 12PM."
What got you into motivational speaking? And were you a writer first, or a public speaker first?

Going through extreme struggle in life, learnt to deal with situation. Having said, ‘When you help others to grow, indirectly god is helping you’. Seen so many up's and down's in life, and immediately realized that, nothing is impossible. I love to help others via my writing and public talks. The major source of inspiration to become a motivational speaker are my parents. They taught me to ‘help others to grow better’. My greatest sources of inspiration are, Mr. Bill Gates, Shri A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Mr. Jack Canfield. Before jumping into public talks & motivational speaking, I am a writer/blogger.

I understand that you are the Vice President of Hope India NGO. Tell us a bit about the work you do there.

What were some of your aspirations as a child? What inspired you to write 'Love: The Key To Optimism'?

Some of my aspirations as child are: - To become social/motivational speaker & nonfictional writer. (Accomplished) - To become Bollywood Film Writer/Director (Just have to wait for Aug 2022)… Inspired by my parents to do something different for this world and that’s why -wrote 'Love: The Key To Optimism'. Being a part of an emerging country, my parents and teachers in school are my major source of inspiration. Without this given and earned base, it would not have been possible to reach out to people individually and create a different kind of energy within them. My intention is to increase people awareness, and to educate as many as possible among the people who are coming from out of great struggles in their lives, and who have decided to achieve something unique in life. I have seen many people who come across difficult situations, but are unable to take control of these difficult times. I am here to encourage such people and to support them in the dilemma. In today’s fast moving world, everyone is busy in personal life, and I feel everyone should contribute something for society and nation.

You're the oldest in your family. What would you say are the pros and cons of being the eldest child?

I am proud to being the eldest child. I love to take more responsibilities and challenges, and I feel being an eldest is the crux behind my confidence. When everyone from family is expecting you to deliver the best in difficult time, which has proven the right track for good performance with continuous hard-work. There are nothing like cons of being the eldest child.

Do you think growing up in a middle class family in India has given you any kind of edge in your writing?

Great question. Growing up in middle class family has given me lot of courage and positive attitude to handle any difficult storm. We were a family, which used to fight for ‘two times meal’ in a day. I have seen my parents were working so hard with less income for our meals & education. That struggling zone of my life made me ethical person to take over the challenges and triggered me to prove ‘nothing is impossible’. I have that pain in my heart, when people were laughing at me after looking at my similar repetitive cloths and never ever found any connection with any writer before becoming ‘nonfictional writer’. Every dots has connection, and I feel that due to such struggle, I can stand with any volatile situation confidently. My situation made me a writer to express my views about life and help everyone to achieve something unique in life.

You're an engineer, a writer, the vice president of a well-known NGO and also a Member of Indian Film Writer’s Association at India. Tell us, how do you manage to stay on top of things? And what do you like to do during your free time?

During my childhood, my neighbors used to say ‘you can’t do anything, even you have great brain’. I have stored this statement in my mind and thought, this is the greatest motivation for me to take their opinion positively. I have decided to become a dynamic person before saying ‘good bye’ to life. As I said, it is equally important to manage the consistency in every role. Meditation and daily physical exercise helped me a lot to boost my energy. ‘If there is a will, there is the way.’ I love to play cricket in my free time, sometimes reading nonfictional books as well.

What is one of your favorite childhood memories?

During my childhood, collecting 2 rupees (INR) for cricket ball is still remembered. Once upon a time, ask of 2 rupees were challenging for me, even my parents not affording to spend 2 rupees for my contribution towards cricket ball. I have been continuously requesting to my friends to contribute for me and they were doing so. Those were ultimate days of life. Even my parents encouraged me to play sports, but due to financial situation I have restricted myself to the cricket.

What motivated you to go from being an engineering student to becoming a motivational speaker and author?

As acquired 51.73 percentages in 10th class, it has been very difficult to get admission in engineering college directly, so I got admission into polytechnic and then to engineering college. During my college campus entrance exams/interviews, were not eligible to appear in any interviews as my marks lower than first class. That was the greatest challenge for me to get a job during campus placement. Top reputed IT MNC companies never given me a chance to test my knowledge. At the end of the session in 2008, god send a company ‘Mphasis an HP company’, and even violating the policies of college, I have appeared the exam and interviews and listed in top 10 students from the information technology stream, that was the biggest lesson for me to set a benchmark for other students. ‘Percentage is temporary, confidence matters a lot’. Going through lot of rejections during college life, I thought to help others through my experiences and talks and that was the starting point to become speaker & author.

What do you think is the most common mistake that people make when trying to be successful or remain optimistic?

What I feel is, people who are only looking forward for ‘temporary satisfaction’ is the biggest gap in mindset and that’s the cause. People who do not go beyond the capabilities as then own. Lack of Strong Social network and integrity of individual character is the prime factor as people failing to build.

In the first few pages of your book, you have a 'Happiness Calculation Formula". Did you create this formula yourself? What was your thought process while creating it? What are the components of this formula?

Yes, I have created it. Based on my research over the human mind. The topic which I have highlighted is a wider one ‘Love – The Key To Optimism’. I have decomposed the formation of word ‘LOVE into individual letters, L = Loyalty, O = Optimism, V= Value and E= Energy, for this everyone needs to board the boat with Dedication, Passion & Consistency, which are essential components of happiness formula along with the Value of Situation.

Which do you think is harder: motivational speaking or writing. Why?

Motivational speaking is harder, because a person have to clear understanding about subject, which requires lot of hard-work & energy. Speaking requires wider sense of knowledge.

Who would you say is your biggest supporter?

My parents, permanent friends are my biggest supporter. Occasionally my followers on social media like Twitter are playing vital role in my development.

If you had to choose between being a famous engineer or being an ordinary, not-so-famous author, which would you choose and why?

Being an ordinary person, enjoying my journey. I would love to continue with my passion as a ‘being an ordinary person, but ready for extraordinary execution’. Every great person was an ordinary at initial level, and we all have to believe in that. If you think you are an ordinary person there are lot of opportunities towards development. A hunger to work more.

What's your writing schedule like? Where is the one place you feel you concentrate and write best in?

Whenever I find some free time, immediately I do start writing. Preferably during 10 PM to 12 PM would be the writing schedule. While seating in my drawing hall, I usually prefer to write.
