Actually, I got really, really bored with my day job. I needed something more. I literally yelled in my kitchen one day, screaming at the top of my lungs for something else because I could not see me working 30+ years at a dead end job that was draining my passion the longer I stayed. Soon after that, I started getting ideas and I jotted them down. They started coming at me in rapid fire sessions, waking me up in the middle of the night, disturbing me in the shower (yes, I know), while driving and while exercising on my elliptical machine. I literally had to stop what I was doing and run to get a notepad to jot down the detailed scenes that were in my head. It was crazy but that's how I started writing. It's what I needed and I've loved the adventure ever since. I have been writing since 2013 and my first book published, Nightfall, 1st edition was in October 2014.
Absolutely ecstatic! It is amazing when a reader comes up to me and says not only have they heard about me but they read my book and they loved it! It is the most amazing experience!
It's all about the readers! The more I get to go out and meet readers, the happier I am. There is no other experience but to hear a fan tell you they read your book and they absolutely loved it! That just makes me smile so wide. I can not describe to you how much joy it is to know that your literary work- essentially words that you typed up on paper all from thoughts in your head- made someone happy and entertained them for several hours. I just love that!
Writing is not for everyone. It is hard work and editing your manuscript is a tedious but necessary task that involves weeks of long, dedicated hours to make sure you got it right. However, if you have a story in you and you need to tell it, go for it! Publishing a book has become so easy and available to everyone, that it is not a complicated process to get your book out there in the world. Just remember, to become a writer, you must be dedicated to the craft. If you have the time, money and energy to expend on this career, don't let anything hold you back.
