This book was impactful to me. Jon-Jamal Turner writes in a no-nonsense manner detailing the brutal pattern of assault and keeping down of African Americans in the USA. As a "woke" Caucasian reading this book, I thought I was aware of discrimination in the USA. The book took my awareness to another level. It is a sad but essential eye-opener because it lays out the chronology of racist events in our country to the current day. The book is critical reading for those who want more than sound bites on cable news or Facebook posts to understand American history on this topic. To make a difference, it certainly doesn't hurt to start with the truth. Ripples of Time certainly takes a hard-hitting step in that direction. I highly recommend it.

Hartz and the 3 artists he partnered with blew me away with their well-crafted panels. I estimate that I liked >95% of them; they made me think, and many of them were amusing as well as poignant. Even the commentary added a deeper level of consideration to the rest of the content in the book. The commentary and About the Author need a significant amount of editorial work relative to their sizes, but that doesn't hinder the book too much. Whether for your own enjoyment or to pique discussion amongst your friends, classmates, and students, I think these comics offer some good fodder!
