BIOGRAPHY

I am currently living in the Hudson Valley of NY. It's a great place to enjoy mountain biking, martial arts and soccer. My love of reading began at an early age when I was first introduced to the classic children's story, Where the Wild Things Are. Path of Darkness is the first book in the trilogy, followed by Wave of Darkness. I have recently released book three of the Saint Peter's Gate Trilogy; Ember. A dark and foreboding story of how the hunter demon came to be, and her struggle in the fight between good and evil.

Fran Comesanas Interview On 09, Jan 2020

"Fran Comesanas' writing style has you hooked within the first few pages and you don't want to put his books down. His attention to detail paints the images in your head. Fran's style of writing fills your head with images that stay with you. He enjoys mountain biking, martial arts, and soccer."
Since how long have you been living in the Hudson Valley of NY?

My parents moved us out of New York City when I was around 8 years old, so I've been in this area for well over 40 years.

What do you enjoy the most about mountain biking, martial arts and soccer?

Each of these endeavors provide me with the ability to challenge myself as well as discipline and a certain sense of freedom I don't find in other activities.

What inspired your love of reading at an early age?

It's hard to say but if I had to guess it was my parents. They had a copy of Aesop's Fables and the book cover fascinated me.

Who first introduced you to the classic children's story, Where the Wild Things Are?

My grandparents.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in writing horror books? Why did you choose this genre?

I believe trying to decide what to write & what to leave to the reader's imagination is the hardest part. The genre actually chose me I believe.

Which of your two books took you the most time to write?

Path of Darkness took the longest. 5 1/2 years.

What challenges did you face to publish your first novel, "Saint Peter's Gate: Path of Darkness?"

Looking for a literary agent. I spent about a year trying.

Who inspired the character of Ember in "Saint Peter's Gate: Wave of Darkness?"

Ember is the main character in both Path & Wave. She is not based on any person that I could say, but she is many pieces of me.

The descriptions of the characters, the events and the settings in "Saint Peter's Gate: Wave of Darkness" are so well written. How much did you research before writing this book?

Thank you. Since Wave was a continuation of Path of Darkness, the story was already there. I just needed to put it on paper. So really, I spent very little time researching.

What is that one thing you think readers generally don’t know about your specific genre?

I think some readers don't know that Dark Fantasy and Horror are not the same thing.

Was it all too easy for you – the writing, the publication, and the sales?

The first book was actually quite hard, but the second was much easier. Sales is the one thing I can say that is extremely difficult.

What is your motivation for writing more?

Motivation comes from the love a writer or an author has for telling their story and so I have one final tale to tell about Ember and her world.

Which genre of book do you think should be most adopted for kids in school? Why?

I think History is probably the most important, but the classics, like Chaucer, Poe & others help stir young imaginations.

What are some of your upcoming projects?

I am currently working on book three in the Saint Peter's Gate Series.
