      • When I'm working on a new piece, I work everyday until the stage I'm in (drafting, first edit, etc.) is complete. Having that daily accountability helps me to push through days where I'm experiencing doubts. I typically work for about an hour a night or until I can feel myself tapping out (listen to your body!). I try to achieve a minimum of 1500 words a night when writing. But sometimes, you can feel yourself coming to a natural conclusion, don't fight it!

      • So much of what my characters experience and feel are first hand accounts, sometimes even from my own diary. I think there's nothing more rich than writing about something you know and writing it raw.

      • People reading my books. My books sitting on shelves; in libraries, in book stores, in homes. I don't need to make money off of my work, I need my work to have a life outside of me.

      • Don't stop. Just don't stop. You are never going to write a perfect first draft. You're never going to get all the details right immediately. You'll have to edit, and then edit again. You'll have to have outside perspectives tell you what you can't see. Push through the doubts and don't stop.

      • Trust yourself. The process that works for others may not work for you, and that is not a failing. Find out how you best create. Is it at nighttime or in the morning? Do you need to adhere to a schedule or just see how you're feeling? And when you feel doubts or imposter syndrome, know that that is a universal truth of writing and file it away. If you create for the purpose of greatness, you're likely going to be disappointed. Write because you love it, because your words deserve life, because it may change even one person's life.
