Born in Canada, which is your favorite childhood memory?
My grandmother would give my cousin and me the donuts holes from her homemade donuts to have a picnic. We were eating Timbits before anyone knew what a Timbit was.
Do you remember the first story you ever read and the impact it had on you?
Not my first. However, after reading Harold Robbins I knew there was more to a romance novel than my mother’s Harlequins.
As an Author, what do you believe is your best asset?
My love of writing. Without it, I would not be able to weave my tales of love and strife.
What books inspired you to start writing romance?
I grew up with my mom’s Harlequins. I’d say they were my original inspiration.
How did you come up with the plot of your book, Rock Gods: Baden?
Baden was a difficult one. Maddox was the sweet brother, Adam was the brooding singer, and Bash was the quiet drummer. But where did Baden fall? I scraped several drafts before Baden’s character called to me. I literally woke up one morning from a dream and had an ah-ha moment.
How did you begin writing the Rock Gods series?
As I was writing Theo, the final book in The Heirs series, the men of Get Bent were merely side characters. As the story progressed, it was obvious that these men needed their own series.
What was your favourite part, and your least favourite part, of the publishing journey?
Creating and writing is my favorite part. Waiting is my least favorite. Waiting for the Beta readers hoping they don’t tear your baby to sheds. Waiting for the copyeditor to tell you the story you’ve spent months on is publication-worthy. Waiting for the Arc’s final approval. You may have finished the writing process, however, it could still be months before your book hits the market.
How much discipline does it take to be a writer? Would you say you are disciplined?
In my opinion, discipline is an essential asset if this is your profession. As I said it can take months to get a book on the market. You have to be working on your next book while waiting on the previous one to go through the many stages of editing. I like to think I have discipline.
Who inspired the character of Haley in "Aleksander: The Heirs Book 1"?
Haley was loosely based on my experience as a single mother working in a high-end shoe store.
What are some things to keep in mind while writing a romantic story?
Don’t let your side characters highjack your story. I’ve had to rewrite several chapters of my latest work in progress because the best friends took up too much space.
What is something that most people don't know about romance books that they NEED to know?
Know your genre. There are several subsections of the romance world. MC, Rockstars, Billionaires, Small town, Sweet, Slow burn. Read the Synoptics or download the free sample.
What is the best writing tip you ever received and who gave it to you?
The best tip came from my daughter, Athena Wright. When I suffer from writing block, put the story aside and start something new. There are times I have three stories on the go at any given time.
What is your writing kryptonite? Inversely, what is something that never fails to inspire you?
My only Kryptonite is my pool in the summer. We have such a short season that I tend to let my writing slide in favor of spending the day lounging in the sun. The thing that always inspires me is my writing nook. I have an oversize recliner and adjustable writing table near the fireplace in our rec room.
What are you currently working on?
My current WIP is a novella for the Sizzling Summer Nights in Paradise anthology due out in August.
