How was it growing up in England? What are your fondest memories as a child from there?
I loved living in England. We lived in a small town in Northamptonshire. We spent a lot of time travelling around the country as well. My fondest memory is definitely the time we spent in the Lake District. It’s still one of my favourite places in the world.
Your most recent book of “The Sin Bin” series – The Lion Tamer - has a lot of good reviews and ratings. What were your inspirations for the characters of Gray Baird and Scottie Monk?
Gray was actually inspired visually by a cover model named Lovett Taylor. Scottie has bits and pieces of people that I’ve known over the years. They are both characters who formed very strongly in my mind when I started writing.
Which do you prefer? Series or Standalone and why?
I enjoy both. I love a series because I can explore a collection of characters in depth. And, I appreciate how with a standalone you can leave that particular world behind when you write ‘The End.’
Most of your books belong to the LGBT genre. What were you inspired by to pursue that genre?
I never know how to answer this question. I enjoy writing love stories between two people (or three on occasion.) Sometimes it’s a man and a woman, sometimes it’s a woman and two men, sometimes two men.
My first standalone M/M, After the Scrum, was inspired by me watching a series of rugby matches.
Your very first book was “The Blackbird Anthology”. How did it feel like when it got published?
Brilliant. And I felt a bit dumbstruck that it was actually out there.
You say your life would be incomplete without your husband. How is he like? Do you let him read your books before it gets published?
He’s not allowed to read my books. Just no. I’d have a panic attack.
My hubby is lovely. He makes me laugh all the time. He supports my writing and encourages me to go as far as I can with it. He’s also very patient and understanding whenever we have misunderstandings, which happens a lot since I’m autistic and he’s not.
“A Very Werey Christmas” was written by you and 5 other authors. How was the experience collaborating with the others?
It was fun writing the anthology. It wasn’t so much collaborating as writing our own short stories around the same theme. Still, I really enjoyed it, and that’s one of my favourite little stories that I’ve written.
If there’s one genre you never see yourself doing, what would it be and why?
Horror.
I don’t watch horror films or read books in the genre. I tend to have incredibly vivid nightmares, so I’m careful about what I put into my head.
What do you do in your free time when you’re not writing?
Read. Video Games. More reading. And I tend to try a lot of different hobbies.
If not an author, what profession would you have chosen?
Not sure. At this point, I find it hard to imagine doing something else.
Are you currently working on something?
I am. I’m currently writing an angsty Romantic Suspense. It’s in the early stages so I won’t say too much about it since I’m a pantser and it might change.
