What inspired you to become a self-trust coach, and how did your journey begin?
My journey began with a stark realization of how a lack of self trust had been impacting my life and work. After 20+ years as a successful leader in the hospitality industry of New Orleans, I found myself overworking and underliving. I was exhausted and lost. My big wake up call came after I sold my car in a desperate attempt to work less and move more. During one of those two-mile walks to work, I asked a question that changed everything- "Why am I having to force myself to work normal hours and move my body?" With that question came a flood of answers and examples of where self trust had been missing in my life. I suddenly had a real understanding of what needed to change and how powerfully it would impact my work and my life. I didn't want to stop being successful or reaching for new levels, I wanted to do it differently. I wanted to do it fueled by self trust.
Can you share a personal story that shaped your understanding of self-trust?
After the car incident, leaving the hospitality industry and starting my own business, I recognized that a large influence on self trust is our internal dialogue- the loud thoughts we hear and the quiet ones running in the background that we often don't. I never considered myself one to have a lot of negative self talk but I also knew I didn't give myself much of a chance to find out. It was normal for me to have several distractions going on at once to drown out my own inner voice- TVs on in every room, a podcast in my ear, talk radio in the car. I decided to stop drowning out my own thoughts and tune in. So I went on a consumption fast- no tv, no podcasts, no self help or education books. Only music and reading for entertainment, and only on occassion. For 3 years I paid attention to my thoughts as an observer. It was fascinating. What I learned is that we barely give ourselves a chance to connect to our own self trust and we are all too quick to claim we can't. We are quick to list all the ways we can't trust ourselves, giving very little credence to the limitless ways we have and can.
How does The Self Trust Solution™ help entrepreneurs and high achievers overcome second-guessing?
The Self Trust Solution makes self trust your greatest strategic advantage. When you trust yourself, you make aligned decisions based on the best information you have. When you trust yourself you are willing to make more decisions and you increase your risk tolerance. You know that the best way to get more information is to move forward on that decision. And when you trust yourself, every result is data to inform your next decision. When decisions are fueled by self trust for data collection instead of drama, there is no need to second guess.
In your experience, what is the biggest obstacle people face when learning to trust themselves?
Confirmation bias. Believing all of the rhetoric out there about self sabotage and leaning into that disempowerment. And allowing their brains to build a case file of evidence to support how they can't trust themselves.
Your book “Master Your Inner Dialogue” focuses on practical guidance. What is one key strategy readers can implement immediately?
Start to listen with curiosity. You don't have to believe everything you think but you can also take every thought as an invitation-
1. To affirm yourself, your path and your goal.
2. To see a different perspective.
“Trust. Surrender. Obey.” is deeply personal and faith-rooted. How does your faith influence your coaching and writing?
It influences my entire person. My desire to serve comes from my faith and it is through this desire to serve that I have deepened my faith. It can't be separated. I only started to share it more publicly with this book as an act of obedience but it is, I hope, where everything good I do flows from.
How do you balance the mindset work of self-trust with the practical execution needed in business?
That's just it... self trust is the practical execution. To run a business you need to make firm values-aligned decisions, follow through on those decisions and have your own back (meaning evaluate for data not drama and celebrate strategically); without self trust these actions are often messy, energy draining and time sucking. Practical execution comes from self trust fueled strategy and follow through.
What role does internal dialogue play in shaping our decisions, performance, and outcomes?
It depends on how you relate to it. The truth is your internal dialogue can be a powerful ally or it can be the exact opposite. And it can change moment by moment. It impacts the decisions you are willing to make, the risks you are willing to take, whether you follow through or not and what you do in the face of results both wanted and unwanted. It can look like indecision, procrastination, rash decisions, frenzied follow through, burn out, poor performance, giving up or following a path that is clearly not working for too long. And you don't have to only have "pretty" or "positive" thoughts. But you do have to pay attention to what you are thinking. Master Your Inner Dialogue is all about creating an honest, authentic and trusting relationship with your inner dialogue. So you are never lying to yourself with toxic positivity nor battling yourself by labeling your thoughts as saboteurs. There is enough challenge to confront out in the world and we are so much better suited for it when we are coming from a united internal front.
Many high achievers struggle with overthinking. What’s your advice for breaking that cycle?
Stop calling it over thinking. The more we can take the drama and judgment out of it, the better. What if it's just a normal amount of thinking? How many thoughts is too much? My invitation would be to state it honestly and with full agency- "I'm choosing to think many thoughts about this." Then write them out and decide what you want to do with those thoughts. Some you may want to answer, some you may want to explore and some you may easily release.
Can you share an example of a client transformation that demonstrates the power of self-trust?
I have a client who had lost all sense of self trust and empowerment in her search for a career. She had begun to apply for any job that came across her desk no matter how over qualified she was. And then started seeing not getting those jobs as more proof that she wasn't able to have a say in her future. Through perspective shifts and connection to her many skills, talents and abilities; she started to build self trust and now has an amazing future leading a business in a new city and doing some freelance work that is meaningful to her.
How do you see self-trust impacting leadership and organizational success?
More open and honest conversations. Less blame and victim mentality. More productivity and efficiency. Less avoidable suprises. Clearer data.
For someone just starting their self-trust journey, what’s the first step you recommend?
Make a list of all the ways you have and can trust yourself. Everytime you accomplished something you set out to, everytime you overcame, endured, learned, grew. It all counts and it's a great way to start your confirmation bias working for you.
How did hosting The Self Trust Solution Podcast influence your perspective on self-trust?
After nearly 3 years, I can honestly say it has been it's own exercise in self trust- in the most beautiful way. It has solidified what I have seen in myself and in the hundreds of clients I have worked with over more than 6K sessions. In season 2, I opened it up to guests and it was so fun seeing how it really does impact everything from health to wealth and relationships. I'm really excited about Season 3 starting in 2026 where entrepreneurs, leaders and experts will be sharing their personal stories of how self trust has impacted their success.
What do you hope readers take away from both “Master Your Inner Dialogue” and “Trust. Surrender. Obey.?”
That trust is always an option and everything changes when you choose it.
