      • It is all about scaling publishing and access. The printing press made it possible for books to be printed in scale and be available to a larger audience. It also allowed authors who did not have access to 'writers' to publish books.

Similarly, e-books have taken the scaling publishing and access to next level. Statista reported 191 million eBooks were sold in the US in 2020, generating $1.1 billion in sales in 2020, up from $983 million in 2019. These numbers are unprecedented in human history.

We can only look back and see how the printing press changed our society through access to knowledge and entertainment. We can also imagine what degree of intellectual depth will scale of e-books lead to.

      • The Foundation series by Issac Asimov for sure. They flow smoothly, are written in simple language, build a galactic vision and bring forth ideas that have inspired our present.

      • The term 'good' is subjective here. If the work 'good' implies that it gives a reader a good idea of the journey the book will take them, then a good cover and title are important.

Then there is the human brain's heuristics of what attractive is and what is attractive holds attention for more than a fleeting glance. And during those moments, the attention settles on the next level details of the book.

Figuring out what is attractive to the readers of your book's genre is a big challenge. If you get it right, a good cover and title will be a big help.

      • Yes and the way to overcome it is to be very aware of where your ideas come from. If your ideas come from observing people, go take a walk or go on a long journey. If your ideas come from scientific progress, go read more scientific literature.

Being aware of where your ideas come from is key to overcoming a "Writer's Block".

      • Yes, I do. While there is not much I can do for that book, I certainly take it under consideration for the net book. This also inspires me to write again. This also protects me from feeling discouraged by the harsh words used for the current book.
