BIOGRAPHY
Author, Future Fanatic, Conspiracy Theorist, Bacon Lover, Sci-Fi Geek
Though my past is sorted, I’m really just a regular guy. A bit passionate and geeky, perhaps, but these traits don’t describe who I am.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with the future. Maybe because in my past, my present seemed dismal. Or maybe it wasn’t the pessimist in me at all, but the optimist. Maybe I was obsessed with the future because it seemed so wonderous by comparison, so filled with the magic of possibility. I’m not sure.
Like most boys, I was always enamored by the concept of magic, wonderous things, and seemingly inexplicable superhuman acts, but there is no magic. There is only science.
Even in the realms of fantasy, magic begs an explanation. That explanation may include the manipulation of energies from this universe or another or the combining of energetic resonance of minerals, crystals, and “life force.” It may be ancient guttural languages and geometric forms drawn with specific substances or by skilled hands waved in the air that stir fanciful beasts from other domains etc.
Regardless of how one serves it to the reader, however, the creators of “magic” are compelled to explain it. It must be justified. Without a basis, it becomes a difficult meal for even the most content-ravenous geek among us. In that explanation, however, the magic is transformed into a subject for study. It gains substance, reason i.e., it becomes a science that can be understood and measured. A wizard is nothing more than a devout scientist of an unpracticed discipline.
With the truth of magic in mind, the truth of Science Fiction is also revealed. It is the study of magic. It is the contemplation of sciences yet to be understood with their wonderous things and seemingly inexplicable superhuman acts.
What does that make me?
I’m the wizard.
