BIOGRAPHY
Whenever I hear about the latest school shooting, my blood runs cold, and my heart aches for the students, staff, and families of the victims. Nevertheless, I am still drawn to the perpetrator. What drove him to it? How did we fail him? What can we do to stop the next one? How close did I come with some of my own students? That's why I wrote The Student.
Upon retiring and moving to Delaware, I launched G Whiz Educational Resources, an educational consulting business, but when the pandemic hit just months later, and we all settled in for a long lock-down, I decided to put the skills I taught my students to good use and write my first novel. A second one is in the works, and maybe a sequel to The Student is in the offing as well.
Before that, I taught English to students with learning disabilities for over thirty years and was department chair at two of the schools where I taught and supervised, mentored, and trained other teachers. In addition, I was responsible for rewriting the language arts curriculum for both schools. Because I'm never satisfied with the status quo, I am the author of the Looking Glass Spelling series and Oops Grammar in Context, textbooks geared specifically for students with learning disabilities. In 2009, I received the Sam Kirk National Special Educator of the Year award from Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) and currently serve as the President of the LDA of Delaware and have a seat on the National Board as well. I have spoken about learning disabilities and teaching writing, grammar, and language arts at national, regional, and state conferences for LDA, ASAH, CEC, and IDA, among other organizations. When I'm not writing novels or running LDADE, I tutor local students and edit my community newsletter.
I currently live in Delaware with my husband, and I have two amazing sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters, Cara and Ivy, who are the light of my life.
