I'm that guy who stops his car, gets out, and moves a turtle to the side of the road. When I'm not rescuing turtles, I'm serving cats. When I'm not serving cats, I'm helping people lead more effectively. When I'm not assisting people to lead, I'm working with organizations to strengthen their leadership-development programs.

Before writing leadership books, I've worked at universities as an administrator and spent sixteen years working in corporate America. Since then, I've moved on to writing and consulting. Throughout my career, I've managed large and small teams. I've made plenty of mistakes and missed opportunities. Still, I've matured from these experiences--at least, I hope I have.

Even though I've accomplished much, I'm still learning. I continue to search for ways to push myself outside of my comfort zone.

One of my best career decisions was joining ISPI. At their conferences, I met scholars and practitioners who shared their craft with me on a personal level. I consider some, like Guy W. Wallace, to be good friends. Being a part of an association is one of the best ways to grow professionally because of the many members who sincerely want to help one another.
