Faith, for me, is deeply intertwined with growth, redemption, and personal transformation. I approach it organically—rather than forcing a spiritual narrative, I let my characters wrestle with their own doubts, struggles, and turning points. Their journeys reflect real-life moments of vulnerability, where faith becomes a catalyst for healing rather than a predetermined solution. It’s important that their spiritual arcs feel authentic and deeply personal.

I’ve always been drawn to stories that highlight resilience and grace. Second chances remind us that our past mistakes don’t define us—there’s always hope for renewal. Whether through faith, relationships, or personal reflection, I love exploring how characters rebuild themselves, discovering purpose in places they never expected.

I focus on making them deeply human—flawed, uncertain, but always evolving. Readers connect to characters who feel familiar, who struggle with the same fears, doubts, and triumphs that they do. I try to give each character a rich emotional landscape, ensuring that their voices linger long after the last page. And it’s my favorite kind of story to read too. ?

History provides such a powerful backdrop for storytelling, and I strive to honor both its accuracy and its emotional depth. While I respect the factual events and settings, I always ask: How did people truly experience these moments? What fears, hopes, or struggles shaped their choices? My priority is to stay true to my characters while placing them in a world that feels historically authentic. I integrate research in a way that enhances the story, ensuring that readers not only connect with the emotional truth but also gain insight into the past. My goal is for history to feel alive—not just as a backdrop, but as a living force that shapes my characters’ journeys.

It’s rarely immediate—faith is a journey, not often a quick revelation. My characters struggle, wrestle with doubts, and take small steps forward. Some experience profound moments of clarity, but for most, growth happens through time, through relationships, and through reflection on scripture.

That’s a wonderful way to frame it—real-life experiences, whether my own or those I’ve observed, always find their way into my stories in some form. Sometimes, the emotions are drawn from my own life, even if the details shift to protect the guilty (or the innocent). Other times, I find inspiration in the quiet moments—a conversation overheard, a song lyric that lingers, a scene from a film that makes me rethink a character’s struggle. Books, music, TV, and movies also play a role, offering different perspectives on human resilience, heartbreak, and redemption. Ultimately, my stories are shaped by the threads of real life, woven with creativity, reflection, and a little artistic liberty to bring out the deeper truths beneath the surface.

My writing process begins with the characters. I spend time developing their backstories, understanding their fears, hopes, and emotional wounds before I dive into the story itself. Since my novels are strongly character-driven, I start with a general plot in mind, but I leave room for it to evolve. As I get to know my characters better, their choices and emotional and spiritaual arcs shape the direction of the narrative in ways I might not have anticipated at the start. I find that allowing the story to breathe—rather than rigidly adhering to an outline—leads to more organic and meaningful character growth.

I write stories that I want to read over and over, ones that pull me in emotionally and keep me engaged each time I revisit them. Fiction, after all, offers a space to escape—a place where readers can step into another world, experience different lives, and wrestle with emotions alongside the characters. I don’t shy away from drama or heartache, because those moments make a story feel real and meaningful. But hope is essential. No matter how deep the struggles go, I want my readers to close the book feeling uplifted—to leave them with a smile, reminded that resilience, love, and new beginnings are always possible.

Exploring this state has been an adventure, and I want my readers to experience its landscapes and the emotions they evoke. Through research and travel, I’ve discovered the rich histories of those who’ve found renewal here, and that theme often finds its way into my stories.

Well, I always keep a box of tissues nearby—that’s just part of writing deeply personal transformations! ;) When crafting a character’s journey, I want to understand not just the facts, but the emotions behind their experiences. Research plays a huge role in that. I read extensively on different topics, but I also seek out first-hand accounts—whether through interviews, memoirs, or even YouTube videos where people openly share their stories. For a recent project, I researched a specific health condition, and reading about it was helpful, but listening to people navigating it in real time allowed me to grasp the emotional weight of their struggles. Those personal insights help me build characters that feel real, allowing readers to step into their shoes and experience their transformation in an authentic way.

Being part of a church community helps me stay connected—to God, to people, and to the stories of transformation that unfold every day. It has been a source of inspiration during my own difficult seasons, reminding me of the strength found in faith and the support of others. More than anything, it’s an opportunity to witness God’s transformative grace and power on display, not just in grand moments, but in the quiet, everyday ways He works in people’s lives. That understanding deepens my empathy, both in life and in writing, allowing me to craft characters who wrestle with faith in authentic and meaningful ways.

I’ve drawn inspiration from authors who write with emotional honesty—those who explore vulnerability without fear. Writers who craft characters with depth and allow them the space to grow have influenced my approach. Their ability to balance raw emotion with hope is something I strive for in my own work.

Sometimes, staying connected to my characters comes naturally—but other times, it’s a challenge. When I struggle to tap into their emotions, I pause and ask myself key questions: How would this character respond to this situation? What would someone with that background or personality do? I think back to people I’ve observed navigating similar circumstances and reflect on how they reacted. If I need even more clarity, I step away from the story entirely, letting it sit while I work on a different one. A little distance often helps me return with fresh eyes, able to see my characters’ journeys more clearly.

Jim and I share a love for history (and, though I hate to admit it, he’s managed to pull me into politics a little). We’re both introverts, which means we appreciate dedicated time together but also thrive in our own hobbies. One of my favorite things about our relationship is the running jokes we’ve built over time—things that absolutely no one else would understand, but they make perfect sense to us.

Daisy and Bella, of course, add their own unique charm to our lives. Daisy is a bundle of energy who never turns down snuggle time—her “snugs” are guaranteed to bring a smile. Bella, on the other hand, is delightfully quirky and often the source of countless funny dog-related jokes. Together, they make life even richer, offering comfort, laughter, and a reminder to appreciate the simple joys.
