Kiran Marahatta is a renowned television journalist, Author, and Documentary maker currently based in New York. Marahatta is a senior journalist at ABC Television, a most successful news channel in Nepal, and contributor writer at HuffPost, and Khasokhas weekly, US-based media. His recent released authorship is “Nepali Who is Who in the USA” which was released by California State University, Long Beach, CA. The book is considered as the most noteworthy reference materials to understand regarding Nepali-American community particularly their social-economic and cultural life.
Marahatta the General Secretary of Nepal America Journalists’ Association who serves as the President of Nepali American Media and Research Center New York is also the Accredited journalist of State Department The USA. He is the honorary member of Nepal America Tourism Journalist Association. Also serves as the News Coordinator of nepalbritain.com. Marahatta is reputed for his outstanding Anchoring skill & style for TV Show. He had started his career in early 2000AD as a Radio Host/reporter, later Program Head at Butwal FM 94.4mhz. Marahatta excelled himself so quickly. He served Nepal Television, the only government own TV station in Nepal, in 2006-2008 as an anchor/producer. He also worked with Gorkha FM 93mhz, a venture of British Gorkha Group, as an Anchor/ Reporter & Program Head in 2007-2009.
He joined ABC Television where he had started as presenter/producer/reporter, later he has been promoted to Program Head & Deputy General Manager. Crosscheck, ABC WATCH &NagarikSambad are his famous shows.
He is the first South Asian Journalist to have the interview with Lionel Messi, the world's most famous soccer star and the first Nepali TV journalist to have the interview with US Congressman. He has presented papers in several international forums regarding Nepali Journalism and current affairs. His paper on ‘Challenges of Nepali Nepalese Media in Transitional Democracy' is remarkable authorship, presented at international media conferences in Vilnius University, Europe in 2013.
Marahatta is best known for his directorial historic documentary, Messi The Man At Barca, a documentary of Football Club of Barcelona & Lionel Messi. Marahatta is the first Journalist from Nepal to have such highest accomplishment. Marahatta presented Dhaka Topi to Messi, Neymar teammates. His documentary has participated in several film festivals in the USA and Europe. He had begun his documentary making career with socio-economic documentaries for televisions since 2007.
