BIOGRAPHY

Marcia Dove – Author of the Maggie McManus Murder Mysteries Fatal Field Trip, Campus Casualty and Wedding Woes
Marcia resides in On Top of the World, Ocala, FL, with her three ginger cats, Freddie, Cupcake, and Pumpkin. She has three grown children and four adult grandchildren scattered around the country actively pursuing their diverse interests.
She spent over thirty years climbing the hospitality ladder, advancing to general manager for a hotel and conference center. Marcia earned an MBA in International Hotel and Tourism Management from Schiller International University, Dunedin, FL, in 2004. She commenced teaching hospitality courses at Schiller International University, Dunedin, FL, and the University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL, Gulf Coast State College, Panama City, FL until retiring in 2023.
Her interests, among other things, include travel. She and her late husband, Bill, took a five-year sojourn RVing full-time through forty-five states. They also cruised to many ports of call worldwide; she says, “Singapore and New Zealand were, by far, her favorites.”
Marcia’s husband, Bill, passed away three years ago. After a long grieving process, she finally resumed writing her Professor Maggie McManus Mysteries trilogy—the novels are based on her experience as a university instructor and hotel general manager.

      • Yes, several. The main characters Trip and Maggie represent the values I grew up with; kindness, empathy, respect for elders and treating people the way you would like to be treated. Those values seem to be missing in many people today including government officials tasked with meeting the needs of their constituents.

        • Thank you for your response, it’s always striking how certain characters become vessels for the values we hold dear. Trip and Maggie sound like beautifully grounded figures, and I admire how you've embedded such meaningful traits into their story. I’m curious, how do you typically promote your books? Have you found anything particularly effective for reaching new readers, especially in today’s ever-shifting landscape of digital engagement?

          • I haven't found anything that has been really effective. I tried Amazon Ads, Online Book Club, Good Reads Give Away, Book Sends, Book Bub, Tina's Promo- Facebook Ads, 17,000 days Book Launch and Pubby Reviews.
Has anything in particular worked for you?

            • Thank you for sharing your experience, it's something many of us can relate to. I've explored quite a few of those same avenues myself over the years, and like you, I found that the return on effort and expense was often underwhelming.

One approach that has genuinely helped me is a Book Blog Analysis (BBA). It's not a promotional service, but more of a strategic tool, it helps you understand how your book is being received online. You get insights into which blogs or platforms are mentioning your work, what themes are resonating with readers, and where there's silent traction you might not be aware of.

It made a real difference in helping me target the right audience, refine my messaging, and identify exactly what needed to happen next for my book to find the readers who would appreciate it most, rather than continuing to spend on promotions that didn’t move the needle.

If you’re open to it, I’d be happy to share the details of the specialist who guided me through the process. It might help you step back from the noise and get a clearer sense of direction one based on actual reader engagement, not guesswork.
