Maureen Stevenson Interview On 30, Sep 2019

"Maureen Stevenson grew up where she still resides, Fort St. John, British Columbia, with her husband. They have two kids, three cats, and one golden retriever. She was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Her motivation is herself and her kids. She is currently completing a medical transcription course along with chasing a five and seven-year-old around. She is currently working on a middle-grade supernatural novel."
What are some of your favorite childhood moments? Where did you grow up?

Some of my favourite childhood moments are playing spies with my neighbourhood friends. We would run around catching imaginary bad people and occasionally peek through fences of neighbours if they were outside and pretend they were enemy spies.

My family also went camping a lot and I use to love running through the bush and riding my bike everywhere in the campground.

I grew up where I still reside, Fort St. John, British Columbia. I was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia.

Since how long have you been living in northwestern British Columbia? Which is your favorite place to go for coffee?

I've lived in NWBC since I was about a month old. My parents grew up in Southern BC.

If I don't make my own coffee, I usually pop into the local Starbucks for a Carmel Macchiato.

Why is writing important to you? Why did you choose to write in multiple genres?

Writing helps me center and I enjoy creating Worlds and stories to share with others.

Why did you choose to self publish your books? What challenges did you face to get your book published?

I had sent my first book, Ebony Eyes to a few publishing houses which sent me rejection letters so when I came across a Self-Publishing company called Iuniverse, I figured it was a good start. What I didn't realize was how expensive it would be for very little return. When Amazon and other companies started offering free self-publishing, I jumped onto the wagon and published 2 more books.

I would still love to be traditionally published and plan to work on that with my newest novel.

What motivates you to be a better author than you were the day before? How many hours a day do you write?

My motivation is myself and my kids. I write mainly for me but if I can, one day help provide for my family with my stories, then I would truly respect and love that.

My writing schedule varies. I am currently completing a medical transcription course along with chasing a five and seven-year-old around. Some days I can get in half an hour and other days I can get in multiple hours.

When asked, what’s the one question you always answer with a lie?

Hummmmm, I'm not sure. Perhaps this question.

What qualities about Carrie’s character in Pleasure Pleasing do you personally admire?

I admire Carrie's tenacity and assertiveness. The confidence she has in herself to take the pleasure that she wants and to give it freely and openly.

What is the toughest criticism you've ever received as an author and how did you take it? What about the best compliment you've ever received?

The toughest criticism to date has been the lack of reviews for my published works. I have sold enough to generate a good amount of reviews but only a few have left any. All current reviews are positive so that is a huge compliment in my mind.

When you're running low on ideas, what do you do or who do you talk to for inspiration?

When my mind is drawing a blank, I go to books and television. Most times my ideas just pop into my head and pester me until I type or write them out, or they fly into the void.

Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years? What are some goals you hope to accomplish by then?

I see myself traditionally published with a fabulous agent!

What were your goals with the book "Niflheim"? Do you think you achieved them?

Niflheim came to me as a short battle story. The main character, Maloc pestered me until I would tell his quick story. There could be more to it but it was all there was and I told it. I've had a few people tell me they wish it was a bit longer.

Were the characters in "Ebony Eyes: A Murder Mystery" inspired by anybody you know? Or perhaps a celebrity?

The book Ebony Eyes was inspired by reading Patricia Cornwell novels. The main character is my alter ego.

What are some things you wish someone had told you when you were still new to the writing world?

I wish someone would have mentioned that marketing is not an easy thing.

What are you currently working on? When can we expect the release of your next book?

I am currently working on a middle-grade supernatural novel. I'm hoping to be ready for release in late 2020.

How were you first introduced to AllAuthor? Do you have any feedback?

I came across AllAuthor on Facebook randomly. I think it is a great asset for author's to use this site to help promote their works. I recommend this to many writers with published works.
