Where did you spend most of your childhood?
In an old revolutionary war cemetery reading books where it was nice and quiet. Sounds creepy, I know, and even a bit morbid. But I was always a strange and unusual child that preferred a wardrobe full of black clothing.
Which is your favorite childhood memory?
Spending time at the beach where my grandfather lived. Every summer we’d spend two weeks at his beach house away from all the chaos. Sitting with the sound of the waves and the smell of the salt air. There was nothing better. We’d often go crabbing and fishing on his boat. Unfortunately I always got sea sick.
While growing up, did you, in any way, have any embarrassing moments?
Ha! Quite a few! I was a tomboy so nothing really bothered me much, but there were a few times when I was teased.
Do you remember the first book you picked up to read?
Yep! I was three years old and loved Red Riding Hood. I was told I carried that book around so much it was tattered and torn.
Congratulations on your remarkable achievements as a bestselling author! Could you share with us what inspired you to start writing, and how it feels to have reached the #1 spot multiple times on Amazon?
I always wanted to write and started at a young age. I started writing plays for the kids in the neighborhood to sit and watch. I also loved making up and telling scary stories around a camp fire or a sleepover. I started writing seriously in my mid twenties and my career took off from there leading me into newspapers, magazines, books and editing and publishing. It’s a great accomplishment making it to a best seller even though I’m humble enough to not let it go to my head. I never forget where I started and how difficult that journey was for me.
As a co-executive producer, owner, and creator of THUMBS UP!, can you walk us through the process of bringing your books to the television screen?
I could but that would mean giving away all my secrets...wink wink.
As an author who has garnered such tremendous success, what do you believe sets your books apart and resonates with readers on such a profound level?
My creativity flows beyond the norm and I have always thought outside the box. My books are more realistic than you know.
With your experience as a bestselling author and a literary agent, what advice would you give to aspiring writers who are looking to break into the publishing industry and achieve similar success?
Forget about write what you know and just pen the best story possible. Don’t stress over trends because readers will read what they want. You never know how popular your book will be unless you write one.
In addition to your bestselling books, have you explored other writing genres or considered branching out into other creative endeavors?
Yes I am an Executive Producer with a project in preproduction
Do you agree that, along with talent, sometimes a writer needs a little luck to be successful?
Absolutely! While I do believe some writer’s are born, many find the career quite a challenge and take on literary courses and learn from writer’s in the business. Many writer’s have actually gon on to become very successful. Don;t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're particularly excited about and would like to share with your readers and fans?
YES! I am currently working on quite a few cosy mysteries, romance, paranormal para cozies and historical cozies. Stay tuned!
