What city/town did you grow up in? What is the earliest memory you can remember?
I grew up on both the East and West coast. From age 0-14, I lived in New York on the south side of the Bronx, and from 14 - 19, I lived in Riverside, California.
Was there ever a time where you never liked to read? How did you get into reading?
I never really liked reading. I have dyslexia, so reading has always been a lot of work for me. Reading is important and gives the power to grow in so many ways.
What made you decide to study Physical Education?
A good portion of my life was spent as an athlete, playing football and running track in both high and college. I wanted to use my degree to help others be their best athlete.
What did you learn while volunteering with Young Life?
The lesson I learned from volunteering was service. Serving others has grown to be a central theme in my life.
How do you learn to write a novel? How do you get started? Is there a format or a set of rules and procedures to follow?
There are many different writing systems a person can follow. It was about the message I wanted to deliver to the hearts of the people that would read my book.
When you write your own book, how do you check to determine if your title has not been previously used already?
This is a very good question that I do not have a clear answer to. I had a very specific theme about brokenness and how to move past it. We did some internet searches of the title.
When writing "Broken Yet Called", did you plan each chapter or just wrote page by page?
I wrote page by page, and I bounced from chapter to chapter.
Do you write your rough draft in pencil or on a computer?
I am a computer person all the way. With my dyslexia, it is helpful to be able also to speak the word vs. just typing.
What stands out most to you on a book cover? Do you prefer symbols like a crown and a few words or a scene with your favorite characters?
What I hope to see on a cover is something that gives me a clue about the book.
If you could create one holiday, what would you create?
I would like there to be a national day of gumbo.

I am currently working on a devotional about growing your faith in God.
