BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and though my full name is Wallace Ronald Roy, I go by Ron Roy. As a quiet kid, I loved nature, reading, and school, especially spelling bees. One teacher, Mr. Hancock, really inspired me. He helped me fall in love with books and made learning fun, which made me want to become a teacher myself.

After college, I did just that, became a fourth-grade teacher. But I also started writing children's stories. For years, publishers kept saying no, but I kept writing and sending out new stories every week. Then in 1978, I finally sold my first book, a moment I’ll never forget.

That success gave me the courage to become a full-time writer. In 1997, I created the *A to Z Mysteries* series, and later *Capital Mysteries*. It makes me incredibly happy to know that so many children enjoy reading the books I once dreamed of writing.
