  - Typically first thing in the morning after a cup or two of coffee. Somedays I write a paragraph, other days I'll have spent hours and pages at it before I realize I've spent half the day writing.

  - Yes. The first thing is not to go into denial and expect that you'll open your laptop and the story will just come forth. The best thing to do is not to force it. Acknowledge it and move on. Do something different. For me that means going on a long bike ride or tending to some work around the house. I find that doing something else has a "reset" effective on the creative process.
