My daughters and I enjoyed this book. It actually fit in very well with our homeschooling lessons since we had just completed a lesson on China and the Terracotta Army. Bubba and Squirt's Big Dig to China was much more fun to read than our school text book!
Bubba and Squirt take turns speaking in first person in the chapters of the book, which made the book unique to me. I haven't seen this done in other books, so it was an interesting way to present the story. There were parts where my daughters and I were laughing out loud with some of the silly stuff Bubba would say.
While this is definitely a fictional story, there are pieces of education about China sprinkled into the story. There is a glossary in the back to help you pronounce the Chinese words throughout the book. There is also a recipe for Chinese Dumplings at the end. I liked the excerpt about the Terracotta Army at the end of the book.
My daughters and I would definitely recommend this book to supplement your learning about China. We homeschool, so it was a nice book to use to take a little break from the traditional text books, while keeping in mind it is fiction, with a little history as well. We would say this book would be best suited for grades 6-8.
We received a PDF version of this book and we wanted to voluntarily share our review to let others know how much we enjoyed Bubba and Squirt's Big Dig to China.
