BIOGRAPHY
Professional Bio — Carol Denise Mitchell
Carol Denise Mitchell is an award-winning author, recognized advocate, and former television reporter whose powerful storytelling spans memoir, fiction, and advocacy.

Born on May 12, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, she is the sixth of sixteen children born to Zebbie Thomas and Tasceaie Carise Charles. She began writing in the 7th grade and has since published over 40 books that reflect her dedication to truth, justice, and emotional depth.
In 1973, Mitchell won the Miss Congeniality Award at the Miss Pomona Valley Pageant, sponsored by JCPenney—a moment that later inspired her memoir 1973 Miss Congeniality, a tribute to overcoming adversity and the power of self-belief.
Her breakout success came with Noah, True Love Never Dies, which reached #1 on Kindle Unlimited in 2021. Critically acclaimed titles include Ruthless Pamela Jean and What Happened to Suzy, both honored by Readers’ Favorite. Her advocacy book, Your Rights: What Employers Do Not Want You to Know, was praised by attorneys as “a gift to the American worker.”
In 2023, Mitchell received the Bay Area Resilience and Determination (RAD) Hero Award from the Alameda County Advisory Board, recognizing her lifelong fight for justice and community empowerment. She returned to her writing roots in Oakland, California, where she previously worked alongside slain journalist Chauncey Bailey and comedian Luenell as a reporter for Soul Beat TV.
Her recent works include:
• MAXINE – A gripping novel exploring identity, betrayal, and redemption.
• INTERRUPTED – A romantic and emotionally rich story set partly in Greece, featuring a single mother and a world-famous actor whose love defies all odds.
• Letters to Carol and Unstable – Introspective works showcasing Mitchell’s range and depth.
Her book on homelessness, Caring About Restoring Our Lives (CAROL), was archived by the Glendale Public Library in Arizona. She has been featured by the African American Literature Book Club (AALBC) and the Oakland Post for her prolific contributions to African American literature.
Now in her 70s, Carol Denise Mitchell continues to write with passion and purpose, aiming to leave behind a legacy that inspires literacy, advocacy, and creativity among young African Americans worldwide.
