At 09:15 on the morning of 08 October 2015, the biggest disaster in aviation history occurred when several commercial flights, other aircraft and helicopters vanished from both radar and visual sight near Cape Town International Airport, South Africa.
No trace of wreckage or bodies was ever found.
One of these flights, AHA 115, inbound from New York, crashed into the sea, close enough to shore, so that passengers who survived the initial crash could attempt to reach safety.
28 passengers eventually survived. Sharks killed many others who tried.
As the day passes with no sign of rescue, they scavenge through the debris on the beach for food and water. By nightfall, there is still no rescue and neither does it arrive the next day – or the day after. Forced to wait where they are stranded, hoping for rescue and filled with uncertainty, they survive by scavenging through the hold of the wrecked airliner. But days merge into weeks and for some reason, the world seems to have forgotten them.
What they do discover is they seem to be in the middle of a pristine nature park, with familiar wildlife living in profusion – but bizarrely, mixed with wildlife supposedly shot out to extinction several hundred years previously.
After several weeks, a group of nine decide to find a way through the mountain range behind them hoping to find a rescue team or any signs of humanity.
Because apart from anything else, they quickly come to realize that in this pristine environment, ruled by nature, they are somewhere near the bottom of the food chain.
