by Clare UrbanskiPublish: Apr 08, 2017Fantasy Book Overview
Niru is the youngest child of the royal family of the wintry kingdom of Lilowë, and he’s dealing with the fact that most of his family has died. First his oldest sister, then his mother, then the sister he was closest to left him to struggle with life. He has difficulty connecting with his father and is absolutely paranoid about losing his only remaining sister, Zoriana, and so even among what remains of his family, he is lonely. Day to day he struggles with his grief and his lessons as a wizard’s apprentice, going to his tutor for support more than for his magic lessons. But it all gives way when something does threaten to take Zoriana away from him, and he discovers an enemy he didn’t know he had. The combined challenges this foe, the incredible dangers of magic, and Niru’s own suffocating tempest of emotions present will intensely try the young prince’s strength.
