Most children have imaginary friends at one time or another - people, cartoon characters, animals, even favourite toys come to life, it’s all normal behaviour.
But when do these friends stop being imaginary? Is it when they start doing magic tricks in the real world? When they start showing their child how to control the world around them? When they begin to terrify parents for fun? What about when they decide they just don’t like your real friends?
Surely that’s more than just imaginary?
David has an imaginary friend called Joey who’s been around since before he can remember. He might look weird and move strangely - but only David can see him and only David can hear him.
This puts David in a place between the real world and somewhere else entirely.
BIOGRAPHY Martin White has had an unusual career path - Paper Delivery Boy, Restaurant Cleaner and Coleslaw Maker, Print Finisher, Musician, Police Officer, Photographer, Author - some of those things are not like the others...
Originally from the Scottish Town of Musselburgh, he's spent most of his life living between there, Edinburgh and now a quaint village in East Lothian where he's found a lot more lurking under the picture postcard surface than most people would like to believe. He's pretty sure there's probably a book in there somewhere.
With a lifelong interest in dark and macabre writing and anything else in life that's odd, surreal or just plain strange, he sets out to tell stories where unlikely and often terrifying things happen to normal people living their lives in ordinary places.
