Micah Manor seems to have everything going for him. He's the star quarterback, poised to receive a football scholarship. He's popular, and he's a nice guy who is always ready to help anyone in need. From the outside, he appears to be happy, but sometimes appearances are deceiving. Micah has been trying to hide a secret from his family for so long he has reached his breaking point.
Matthew Manor is the pastor of one of the largest churches in the area. He tries to be kind and compassionate, as well as a role model for his son. As a pastor he is sometimes asked to choose sides on certain issues and speak out about the pressing issues in his community and his congregation. Matthew has tried not to cause anyone to feel unwelcome in his church, but he hasn't made it a secret that he disagrees with homosexuality in general.
Jake Bradley has been Micah Manor's best friend since kindergarten. They were always close, but as they grew up, their friendship turned into more. The relationship that he has with Jake is one that Micah has gone to great lengths to hide from his parents. It's a relationship that he feels would cause his parents to turn their backs on him completely. Despite how close they are, Jake is unaware of the massive amount of torment that has been churning in Micah's mind over his torn feelings.
Micah's feelings culminate in a suicide attempt that lands him in a coma, barely clinging to life. Those who love him can do nothing but wait and hope that he recovers. Even in the uncertainty of his survival, Micah has caused a shift in the world around him, as those closest to him must overcome their own obstacles, come to terms with who he really is, and try to understand all of the things he was trying to hide.
This is a story of trust and growth that illustrates the true healing power of loving acceptance, even when the wounds run all the way to the core. This is Micah's Goodbye.
