BIOGRAPHY
Multi-award winning Ghanaian journalist and writer George Sydney Abugri is known as much for his award-grabbing journalism spanning several decades as for his impish humour and the sarcastic wit of his popular newspaper column, “Letter to Jomo”, which ran in the Daily Graphic for more than two-and-a-half decades. The column has since been published in the General Telegraph newspaper and on many websites and blogs.

Employing an epistolary mode, Abugri spins tales about life in his native Ghana based on the news and his personal observation of social activity and behavior for the benefit of a fictional compatriot in the Ghanaian Diaspora who goes by the name Jomo.

Former BBC correspondent and award-winning journalist, Kwaku Sakyi-Addo describes Abugri’ work as “Outstanding. Delightful. Humorous. Articulate. A brilliant and objective sketch of Ghanaian politics and way of
life.”

Abugri is an alumnus of the University of Wales, Cardiff: His books include “Soul Blast” a collection of poems, “The Newsmonger’s Apprentice“, an autobiography and a two-part series of essays, “Letter to Jomo: An Epistolary Commentary on the Political and Social Life of Ghana”, Volume 1 and Volume 2.
