by J.M. JohnsonPublish: Dec 13, 2016Series: The IncidentScience Fiction Book Overview
A new and unique look at what a dystopian future could look like. What happens when the lights go out? A disastrous mistake plunges North America into the dark, and Tony and Irma's peaceful life comes to a halt. Everything changes in an instant and they are forced to confront life as it was a hundred years ago.
They face a coming winter with trepidation, two old people trapped in the wilderness of Northern Canada. As family and strangers join them in this post-apocalyptic world they are forced to work together and to change their definition of who their family is.
Their son flees his city home, looking for a safe place for his wife and baby. Followed by unknown teenagers they strike out on the hundred mile trek to the home farm. As the winter closes in the farmhouse soon becomes crowded with those teenagers, the gruff neighbour and his meek wife, and a would-be robber and his family.
When they are invaded by a biker gang, the family fears the worst, but by offering a helping hand and sharing resources, the groups come together in friendship, and the family expands.
A brutal Canadian winter and the theft of their food supply add to their distress.
This is the drama of a group of people cast together by fate, and a disaster of epic prportions. You will love how the characters evolve and how kindness and compassion defeat every obstacle.

Reviews:
What an amazing first novel. The plot is solid and the characters well developed and clearly identifiable. And the story itself is more than just plausible; "The Incident" is truly possible.
The reason for the above headline is that I spent two nights reading into the early hours of the morning, not willing to put it down - so thank you! (Sleep Snatcher)
Thoroughly enjoyable! Read front to back in one sitting...couldn't put it down....eagerly awaiting J.M.'s next novel (Rocking Chair Reads)
