by Rolf RichardsonPublish: Apr 27, 2021Book Overview
Having been involved in a social scandal, Detective Inspector Ben Drover is told a change of scene is advisable, so he joins travel agency Wander World as a security consultant.
The year is 1981 and Wander World is preparing for its first season of River Nile cruises. There’s always trouble brewing in the Middle East, so Ben is sent to Egypt to assess the safety angle.
With Nile cruises becoming popular throughout Europe, Ben finds himself leading a small delegation from Germany, Holland and Sweden.
The Cairo-Aswan flight is full, so Ben and Sophie, the rep from Germany, have to take the Nile Sleeper, the overnight train south. Where they find themselves plunged into the simmering warfare of the region.
The focus then moves to Israel, Lebanon and the interminable problem of Palestine, a fictional story set in the real world of the turbulent early ‘80s. Passions run high, so readers of a sensitive disposition should steer clear.
Having said that, this sets out to be an entertainment, the complex history and mayhem being spiced with humour and romance.
