When a fire breaks out at Our Lady of the Angels parochial school in Chicago on December 1, 1958, almost one hundred children die tragically. BIOGRAPHY Mary Sandford's first published work, a poem about the harvest season, appeared in the Future Homemaker's of America magazine while she was attending high school. After finishing school Mary concentrated on her seven children. For several years she got up at 5am and managed to write a few devotionals, programs, and c... hildren's plays. But her children were always her priority. She loved playing and reading and just hanging out with them. During their school years she was always their room mom, planning room parties and going on field trips. She stopped counting how many times she'd chaperoned their classes when she got past 100. In the summer the family traveled, went to the community pool and spent time together.
After her youngest child started school, she had more time to spend on her writing. So, she joined the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) attended conferences in a half dozen states, completed college classes, numerous workshops and several writing courses. During that time Mary had more than 60 stories published and some of her work earned SCBWI awards.
Now, the nest is empty, but all that time focusing on her own children filled Mary up with stories to write. And her 18 grandchildren keep the ideas multiplying. She loves to travel and often her trips include visiting the grands. Mary's goal as a writer is to live and work for Jesus Christ, so more children will know Him and want to serve Him with their lives.read more
