Allegra is a work of fiction in the dystopian genre. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author Nikita Bloom. Set in a nightmarish vision of the world we know, the story follows a soldier named Aiden who serves in the private army of the dangerous leader of the underworld. Doing what he must to survive after a life of hardship, Aiden is resigned to his role until he falls in love with Allegra who wants more than mere survival. Together the two must fight for a future where they can truly be happy, but with enemies around them and in a world with a hundred other dangers, can they really afford to abandon their former safety?
Effective world-building and consistent lore are two tools that dystopian fiction writers must master in order to develop a story for readers to get lost in, and these tools are amongst the many that Nikita Bloom has in her toolkit. The world of Allegra is brutal and unforgiving, but Bloom never shies away from the human source of much of this nightmare world. This forms the perfect backdrop for a love story about two people who have fought tooth and nail just to stay alive, only to meet each other and be caught up in the fantasy of life beyond mere survival. Allegra and Aiden are beautiful in their personification of hope, and Allegra does a wonderful job of balancing their tender romance against the harsh reality of the world they live in.
