Many scientists have long speculated that life on Earth got a “kick start” by organic matter carried to Earth by comets and meteors.
On November 12, 2014 the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft and Philae lander successfully made it to the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This was an historic event, the first time man had landed a space craft on a comet.
On July 6, 2015 the European Space Agency and NASA announced that the Philae lander discovered an organic-rich black crust, which is most likely explained by the presence of living organisms beneath an icy surface of the Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
On November 15, 2016, the organic material again strikes the Earth, this time with far different results.
The organic material spreads among the people of Earth, it begins making people sick on Thanksgiving Day, 2016. The sick begin dying on Black Friday. Within 36 hours 500 million are dead, millions fall over dead every minute. America believes she is under biological attack, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs orders America's military to DEFCON 2. Russia and China watch America prepare for war, they mobilize their own militaries. A simple mistake leads to World War 3.
The Johnson family lives in the Smoky Mountains of TN, they're at the West End Mall on Black Friday when people begin falling over dead. John thinks they are under attack, he rushes his family home. Within a week, everything the average family in the twenty-first century takes for granted is gone. The Johnson family have to adjust, adapt and overcome the problems caused by the new organic material which leaves many of the survivors mute. 70% of the infected will silently die in the first year.
Six months after the nuclear war and the initial deaths from the 'silent death' the survivors tend to keep their distance from each other. They are worried they will catch the mysterious disease. The "Silent Death' plague, named because it causes its victims to become mute begins to mutate killing millions more in different ways.
How can the human race continue if people keep their distance from each other? Millions of the survivors are mute, communication is difficult, life for the survivors is hell on earth.
No one knows what caused the Silent Death, just that it continues to kill, did God send the 'Silent Death' to cleanse the Earth? Did God decide to man has failed and should be killed off as he did in the past?
