BIOGRAPHY
Joe Matthews is a retired Captain from the New York City Fire Department who recently published his first book:
CYCLING FOR A CAUSE: A CROSS-COUNTRY ADVENTURE
I sincerely hope that anyone who reads it enjoys it.
I have lived my entire life on Long Island. I was a New York City firefighter for twenty-two and a half years, rising to the rank of captain before retiring on December 8, 2012. I have two children: Steven, who lives in San Francisco, California, and Kelly, who lives in New Canaan, Connecticut. And yes, I am now the proud grandfather of Otto, who was born on July 3, 2023.
I am now semi-retired. As a philanthropist, I enjoy playing guitar, volunteering, cooking, and trying to stay fit.
Over the past two years, I have fulfilled two long-held dreams. In 2022, I rode my bicycle across the country, and in 2023, I finished writing my book. |
