Book Overview
Over thirty years after their graduation, the intricate onward stories of a group of 1970s Edinburgh students unfold. Luke's legal client disappears without trace. His wife Emily is suddenly contacted by her old boyfriend who abandoned her when pregnant; how will Jimmy's daughter Lily feel about meeting her father for the first time? And can Emily forgive him? Archie's romantic life takes centre stage, involving his old friends. Tina can't decide whether to stay in her marriage, or leave. Tragic news, inadequate nursing home care, and the uncovering of an historic murder ensue. The essence of place is central, and picturesque Edinburgh plays an evocative and key role in a beautifully crafted novel which inspires, has touches of humour, and also shades of pathos.
How can you capture the power of a long marriage? What is its essence? Read the moving and heartfelt comments of Luke and Emily, leading characters in 'A Place of Justice'.
How does a woman deal with the reappearance of her old boyfriend from 30 years ago, and with his request to meet the daughter he fathered? How does that daughter react when she learns about her father for the first time, and hears that he wants to meet her?
BIOGRAPHY I have a passion for writing; the words flow relatively easily. Having written in other genres, mainly academic, 'A Place of Justice' is my first novel, based partly in Edinburgh, where I did my undergraduate degree. I am in a delightful portfolio stage of life, working as a charity trustee, with emeritus status at the university where I worked, and dipping into Spanish once a week, learning more about art, and discovering the joys of exercise. I am married with two children, two grandchildren, and a golden retriever rescue dog. This photo is of my dear mother, who graduated from university in the late 1940s, then a rare achievement for a woman.
