In the turbulent era of the American Revolution, where the fight for independence breeds both heroism and betrayal, one enigmatic figure lurks in the shadows: Mr. Smith. Known only as the Phantom Patriot, this elusive spy operates in a world rife with espionage, secret codes, and clandestine missions, navigating a battlefield where loyalty is fleeting, and deception is a deadly weapon. His pursuit of a hidden truth could alter the fate of history, but with British redcoats, mercenaries, and double agents lurking at every turn, survival is never guaranteed.
Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a relentless devotion to the Patriot cause, Mr. Smith embarks on a perilous journey to unravel a vast conspiracy spanning the Thirteen Colonies, Europe, and the high seas. From the secret dealings of French diplomats and Spanish agents to the ruthless machinations of British spies and loyalist informants, every encounter pushes him closer to the truth—and deeper into danger. With the Founding Fathers' vision for a free America hanging in the balance, he knows that trust is a commodity in short supply.
As Mr. Smith delves deeper into this deadly spy thriller, he infiltrates the darkened alleyways of Colonial Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, where the Sons of Liberty plot rebellion under the noses of the British crown. His path leads him to the extravagant courts of Versailles, where King Louis XVI weighs his support for the American cause, and to the docks of Charleston, where smugglers and privateers wage war on British supply lines. Along the way, he encounters the Weatherbys, a cunning husband-and-wife duo skilled in intelligence gathering, counterintelligence, and codebreaking. Their knowledge of hidden messages, invisible ink, and espionage tactics makes them invaluable allies in the battle for freedom.
But no war is fought on land alone. To uncover the deepest layers of treachery, Mr. Smith joins forces with the daring privateer Pierre Gosselin, a man who knows the maritime world as intimately as he knows the shifting tides of war. From covert naval skirmishes in the Caribbean to sea battles against British warships, Gosselin’s skills in smuggling, ship-to-ship combat, and intelligence operations prove crucial in navigating the treacherous waters of revolution. As their fates intertwine, the stakes grow ever higher, and the risk of exposure could mean execution.

With every step, Mr. Smith inches closer to unveiling the traitors threatening the fragile dream of a new nation. But as the noose tightens and enemies close in, will his spycraft, combat prowess, and cunning intellect be enough to uncover the ultimate deception? Or will the ghosts of his past catch up to him at the worst possible moment?
Step into a world of secret alliances, hidden agendas, and revolutionary warfare, where every move could mean liberation—or death.
BIOGRAPHY I’m just a guy who loves history and telling a good story. My fascination with the past probably comes from years of service and a deep respect for the quiet, often overlooked individuals who shape history in ways most people never notice.
I started my military career as an Army airborne infantryman, bouncing around as a scout on a Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) team—essentially sneaking around and hoping not to get caught. Later, I spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, working across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa. I like to think I played a small role in supporting efforts to build nations and secure freedom. In reality, most of the heavy lifting was done by the people who lived there.
After leaving the military, I spent years working for several federal agencies, navigating the complex world of government operations and policy. It was challenging, rewarding, and, at times, more bureaucratic than I’d like to admit. Eventually, I realized I wanted to get back to one of my true passions—history and mysteries. That pull toward uncovering the past and crafting compelling stories led me to write Pawn to King's End, my historical novel set during the Great Derangement at the start of the French and Indian War and leading into the American Revolution. The story follows an Acadian family caught in the shifting tides of empire and revolution. It’s about loyalty, survival, and the cost of freedom.
At its heart, the novel explores something I’ve come to believe deeply: building a nation—and securing true liberty—isn’t a single event. It’s a process, full of sacrifice, struggle, and uncomfortable contradictions. The early founders knew the irony of declaring universal freedom in a world where many remained unfree. But they also understood that the work of creating a truly free nation wouldn’t be finished in their lifetimes. It would take generations.
I did my best to weave meticulous historical research with compelling characters. Hopefully, the book serves as a reminder that freedom isn’t something you win and walk away from. It’s something that demands ongoing commitment, perseverance, and a whole lot of people willing to fight for it, even when no one is looking.
