If I could inspire one person to write and turn a passive reader into an avid reader, I would consider myself successful. I have always found the written word to be a wonderful escape and I have learned so much about myself through reading words written by others. I want to give back in the same way.
I struggled with writing and reading comprehension as a child. My mother did everything she could think of to get me engaged with anything that wasn't a picture book, asking me to write my own simple stories was akin to pulling teeth. It wasn't until I discovered poetry that I began to enjoy writing. The freedom from having to know and follow grammar rules set my creativity free in a way that I had never thought possible. I wrote my first poem at the age of 12. From there I moved on to song lyrics and I considered focusing on script writing while in college. It wasn't until inspiration hit for my first published book that I even considered writing prose as an option. I couldn't imagine writing anything else.
