I've been writing for about ten years or so, though I wrote my first short story in 6th grade. I found a teacher who encouraged me, and that's how I really got started.
Sometimes, this can happen because you follow the wrong advice. Writing isn't a straight line, there is no one size fits all here. Try different things and connect to other writers.
