I realised I had a long way to go in the editing department. I also found my work long winded sometimes so I've concentrated on shortening sentences and converting lengthy narrative to dialogue. I find my editing process is now lessened, and I can play with dialogue.

Try to write what you know, if you don't and it's something that matters, research it. Well founded facts make the difference to readers, thanks to the internet people are vastly well informed and can handle facts. If I am making something up, I try to invent something, but keep it grounded as an evolution of real world tech, or so different that nothing exists to contradict it.
