I decided to write when I couldn't find the kind of stories on the shelf that I wanted to read. I wanted to write things that were quite different, based in legend and myth but situated in the modern world.
That's such a strong reason to start writing, filling the gap in the kind of stories you wanted to read. I think some of the most original works come from that place. Legend and myth grounded in the modern world sounds incredibly rich, there's a lot of creative room in that space.
For me, it was the tension and fragility of the Weimar era that drew me in. That period always felt like history on a knife’s edge, and I wanted to explore it through the lens of crime and human motivation.
What was the first idea or image that really sparked your story world?
Hi there! I thought it might be lovely to chat a bit about our writing journeys. I always enjoy hearing how fellow authors got started. What first inspired you to begin writing?
I began writing when, many years ago, I couldn't find what I wanted to read on shelves. Every story I picked up seemed to read exactly the same, so I wanted to try something different.
It’s been such a joy hearing about your path. I find it amazing how every writer’s story is so unique.
As for me—I started out performing and writing songs and plays, and that love for rhythm and rhyme led me quite naturally into children’s books. It's been a very winding but rewarding road!
