Writer’s block is something that I think every writer experiences from time to time. I am no exception. While I don’t believe it is possible to eliminate this problem, there are steps you can take to reduce your chances of experiencing writer’s block.
One step I find most helpful is to thoroughly outline your book before you begin writing. In my opinion, having an outline gives your writing direction and makes it easier to identify and fix story-related problems before you write your first draft.
I have loved science fiction since I was a child. And it was out of this love for sci-fi that inspired me to try my hand at writing in this genre.
My first serious attempt at writing science fiction was in 2011. However, my first work wasn’t a novel or short story… but a screenplay (teleplay to be exact). I wrote a television pilot for what would eventually be called Cargo 3120. The idea was conceived back in the late 90s by me and my fellow co-creators: Daymond C. Roman and Lloyd Walker Jr.
While we went on to write episodes two and three as well, we decided to first tell the story as a book series before pitching it to Hollywood.
In 2015 I adapted the teleplay for the pilot episode into four novellas, three of which I released on amazon. In 2021, I combined the novellas into the full novel: Cargo 3120 Ties that Bind.
This has been a true labor of love. Crafting the universe of Cargo 3120 has been a joy for me, and I am glad to finally share our vision with the world.
As writers, we are passionate about our work. And out of that passion, we put our heart and soul into our writing. But as I have come to learn over the years, you must also have balance. I know it is important to get the story done, but if you don’t find time for yourself, stress can cause you to lose the joy and love of writing.
