I've only had this happen at book events and only from a handful of readers. I'm so grateful that anyone wants to read my words. Hopefully, I won't be as socially awkward in the future as I am now.
Yes, I often do, but not down to every single detail. For instance, in my first book, I wrote about a car accident that ended tragically for a side character. The main character lived. I was in an accident before that could've ended tragically, but I lived. The difference between real life and my story is there wasn't a passenger in my car and no one died.
My advice is to keep going and write at your pace. Recognize that what works for some may not work for you. Write what you love and if it becomes draining or stressful, take a break.
