I grew up loving Stephen King novels. I then discovered Frank Peretti. Both these authors influenced me and made me want to be a creative like them. One may notice some of their elements in my books. Then, I began writing Shiloh's Rising, a story that I wrote to draw close to the King during trying and difficult times. Now, I write what I call Spirit-Filled Fiction, stories that display God has He is: alive, active, & powerful to change people's lives. I hope I represent the King well with my novels & devotionals.
Kindle & e-books have made finding good books and reading them within moments a real thing. It means we can be more choosy in our book selections, which means authors must make sure their writing is top notch. It gives an opportunity for authors, especially independent authors, to get noticed, and for their books to become of value to the reading public. Great potential and a great opportunity for readers (and writers).
The most important aspect of good writing will always be believable characters. After that comes presenting a vibrant story premise--if it is original, captivating, & explores something heretofore unexplored. And third is to hook the reader as often as possible by raising questions that keep the reader turning pages.
