I was probably 8 or 9 when I thought about becoming a writer. Though I didn’t think I could until the last year of High School.
What's the most addictive book you've ever read?The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien is very nice to read, it kept me captivated throughout the book.
Why did you choose to study English and Creative Writing? Was being an Author always a plan?I chose to study English and Creative Writing because I enjoyed writing and using the written word to express myself. I don’t think the plan was to be an author. Though was always encouraged to read lots and widely from an early age.
At what age did you write your first story? What was it about?I have written a few stories in Primary School. I guess since then, my first story was a science fiction story in university? I don’t remember my very first story though.
In what ways do you think your book, Rocket Boy: Spaceflight Book will inspire young readers to care for our nature?Rocket Boy looks more towards science and space. Though I guess It encourages young readers to respect the environment more and think about how they can use their imagination for positive things.
What is the most serious environmental problem the world is facing today?This is difficult question! I would say that Climate Change is a serious environmental issue. It’s one that’s difficult to address directly as well.
How many books do you plan to write in Rayne the Tropical Fish series?Just one more, I planned it as a trilogy. The third book is called Rayne and the School of Fish.
Which one do you prefer: writing a series or a standalone novel? Why?I prefer writing a series, so I can explore a topic more and develop characters over time.
What do you love the most about writing books?I like having room for expression and exploring different characters and settings.
What do you like doing when you are with your family?I like to talk, or swim when it’s the Summer.
What are some great ways to encourage young writers?Having adults read to them, having monthly reading goals (not challenges), having activities or ways to interact with books.
What is your stance on environmental issues?I think that more awareness is needed towards environmental issues. I think that alternatives need to be found, especially when it comes to energy and reducing pollution (air or ocean)
Considering environmental issues, book a better source of reading or a Kindle?I think that Kindle is a good alternative to physical books. Though I still enjoy the feel of a real book in my hands. Plus getting books from a library rather than a bookstore is more environmentally friendly.
Which is the next book you are working on? Is it a series or a stand-alone book?I am working on a few books. Working on one called Nala’s Village. It will probably be a standalone book, haven’t decided yet.
