Where were you born? Since how long have you been in Thornwood, Westchester County, New York?

I was born in St. Marys, Pennsylvania and moved to Westchester County, New York 43 years ago. I have lived in Thornwood, New York for the past 39 years.

Were you an avid reader as a child? Do you still read books?

As a very young child, I loved to listen to fables and fairy tales. When I got older, I thoroughly enjoyed reading fantasy and historical fiction stories.

Who was the first person you shared your first ever story with?

My mother was the first person I shared my first ever story. She always loved my stories and encouraged me to write.

Your thoughts on conventional vs. self-publishing? What route did you choose and why?

I chose the conventional method of publishing my books. I enjoyed the advice and expertise that I received from my publisher. They guided me through the process and introduced me to my illustrator who truly brought my words to life.

What challenges did you face while publishing your debut novel, PUNKIN?

My publisher suggested that I rewrite one scene in PUNKIN to make it more child-friendly and magical. I thought long and hard and rewrote the scene which added a touch of magic to the story!

What made you decide to write a story about the magical journey of a young pumpkin?

One autumn day, I was visiting the state of Massachusetts and discovered a huge award-winning pumpkin displayed on a flatbed truck for everyone to admire. It's size amazed me! I had never seen a pumpkin so large. Then, I started to think about what would happen to this beautiful pumpkin over time. Thus, the seed idea for my first published story, PUNKIN!!

What was your reaction when you received the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in the categories of Children’s Interest?

I remember getting an email stating that PUNKIN received the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in the category of Children's Interest, and I jumped up in excitement! I immediately called my mother and excitedly shouted the good news! She's always been my biggest fan!!

Who inspired the character of Rae in "The Caribou King"?

All of our "heros" who help us in great need inspired me to create Rae in THE CARIBOU KING. He is the epitome of strength who rose to the occasion to save his entire family.

How many books do you plan to write in the Westorchid Children’s Book series?

Currently, there are four (4) books in the Westorchid Children's Book series: PUNKIN, GEM'S GIFT, SHE NEVER ASKED FOR WINGS, and THE CARIBOU KING. I will continue the Westorchid series as long as I'm inspired to create stories that send a positive message. I'm currently working on a story that includes a snowy owl.

How do you normally choose the names for your characters?

The names for my characters usually depict their personality. For example, Punkin describes the pumpkin's sweetness. The name Gem, meaning "jewel" captures how special this little squirrel is to his parents, the star of Westorchid, and the oak tree. Cal's name means "devotion" which she proves in the story SHE NEVER ASKED FOR WINGS. Rae in THE CARIBOU KING is the "light" who leads his family to a new beginning.

Which option do you prefer, reading some books or watching movies adapted from them?

I always enjoy reading the book, but there are some movie adaptations that I truly enjoy.

What should every aspiring writer know about writing?

I believe a children's book writer should always have a good illustrator to bring the words alive, and write with honesty.

Who is the most supportive person in your life when it comes to your writing?

My students continue to inspire me to write more stories. They always ask when I'm going to write another story, and I always run ideas past them for their approval.

What book ideas are you currently working on?

I'm currently researching the snowy owl, and the story theme will focus on forgiveness.

When were you first introduced to AllAuthor and how?

I first noticed the wonderful graphics that AllAuthor used for the books written by another author whom I admire. At that point, I reached out to AllAuthor and they have continued to help me market my books with expertise.
