Colleen Baxter Interview Published on: 14, Jul 2021

What is a childhood memory that makes you smile?

Getting to ride my first pony!

Since how long have you been living in Stockbridge, Georgia?

We've been here for about six years now.

What do you love the most about dogs?

My dogs follow me everywhere - it's like having my own little pack!

Why do you sit at your spinning wheel turning fiber into yarn for inspiration?

There is something soothing about the repetitive movements involved in spinning. It helps all the elements of the story to come together.

Who is the most supportive person in your life when it comes to your writing?

Easily my daughter, Crystal, and my husband, Galen. Both of them support me in different ways.

Your thoughts on conventional vs. self-publishing? What route did you choose and why?

I think it just depends on what you want. Self-publishing allows me to get my books out more quickly and I enjoy being involved in all aspects of the business. However, conventional publishing would probably have gotten my books into more readers hands.

Which book took the longest to write in Crossover Series?

That would be the first one, Where the Red Moon Rises. I started that book twenty years ago and set it aside as I gave up writing for many years. When my daughter encouraged me to start up again, I picked up WTRMR and finally finished it.

How did you come up with the title of your book in the Crossover series?

The title was one of the hardest things to come up with. I struggled and changed it over and over until about a month before publication. I wanted something like "Where the Red Fern Grows" which is one of my favorite books.

Who is your favorite character in the book, What the Golden Sun Sings?

That would be Bynni. I love her spirit and the way she tackles problems full-on.

Do you prefer writing on a notepad first or you directly start writing on your computer?

Computer

What is the best writing tip you ever received and who gave it to you?

I don't know where it came from, but it has been repeated from several sources, and that is to just write.

If you were to be a world-famous painting, which painting would you be?

I don't know, but something by Monet or Turner.

How many dogs do you have? How do you take care of them?

I have three dogs, which is probably too many for us. They are all indoor dogs and spend much of the day napping around the chair where I do most of my writing.

Are you working on a new book? Is it going to be a series or a standalone?

I am working on editing a science fiction novel that will be the first in a trilogy.

When were you first introduced to AllAuthor and how?

One of my author friends introduced me to AllAuthor and I thought it looked like an amazing resource!
