When I was four, my dad brought home a baby goat. That goat would chase me around the yard non-stop. I loved it and would laugh and laugh and laugh! The goat only stayed with us for a couple of weeks but it stuck with me all these years later.
What are some "must-see" places in Colorado?Any and every place along the Rocky Mountains is breathtakingly beautiful!
Do you read romantic suspense novels? Which is your favorite?Yes, romantic suspense novels are my favorite and my favorite novel changes often so it's hard to pin down just one or a few...
What were the career, education, and life steps it took to find your life's passion?I love a challenge and I've always enjoyed writing plus it gives my overactive imagination an outlet. I've had a lot of non-writing jobs in the past but this is what I love to do.
How did you begin writing the story of your debut novel, Don't Give Up on Me?There was a open call for book submissions and I played around with the story until I got "Don't Give Up on Me". I never submitted this story though. I self-published it.
Who inspired the character of the trained Army Ranger, Ryker?Honestly, no one. He's just an awesome character that fit the story.
What was your favorite part, and your least favorite part, of the publishing journey?I love the challenge. I love the learning. But sometimes it's easy to get bogged down with "busy" work - important work but the non-writing side of things.
What, exactly, are gospel values?Christ-centered values. The five solas - Scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, to the glory of God alone.
How do you combine two genres, romance, and suspense to make an entertaining book for a wide range of people? The adrenaline, the rush, and the sparks make for a lot of fodder in a story that has something for everyone.
What is the biggest cooking debacle that you have been a part of?Orange Chicken. It was about eight years ago and my kids still remind me of it, complete with twisting up their faces.
What’s your opinion on rescuing a puppy vs. buying one from a breeder?I'm a rescuer. All my pups have been rescues - either from shelters or rescue groups. At one time, back when there was still dog racing in Colorado, I worked with greyhound groups homing ex-racers.
Why do people have negative perceptions of romance novels and novelists? They can be pretty cheesy, predictable and unrealistic. But it's a book, it's an escape - you can unwind and lose yourself in another world.
Do you have a great book waiting within you? Which genre? When will you start writing?I always have a great book waiting to get out. I love writing in the romance/suspense/thriller genre. Sometimes I think about starting a new story in a different genre but I always end up right back in the romantic suspense genre... every time.
