Kaia Verheyen Interview Published on: 03, May 2021

Do you remember the first book you ever read?

I read my first book by myself when I was five years old. I think it was a book about Disney princesses with all kinds of short stories because I really liked Disney princesses!

Who introduced you to the world of books?

My father and my mother. They both read a lot and they encourage me to read every day. I show people what I read on GoodReads.

Is it true that all bookworms want to write a book?

I think some people just like reading a lot. I love reading and telling stories that’s why I wanted to write a book to share my stories with everyone.

What are some good book ideas for teenage writers?

That’s difficult. I am not a teenager yet. Personally I love reading action, fantasy and even some spooky or weird stories. Don’t forget to make them fun, as everyone likes a good laugh.

How did you come up with the idea for your novel, Luna & the Magical Piano?

I have played piano since I was four. When I play some of my solos, the music sounds magical. This gave me the idea for the book. I have also read a lot of fantasy books, especially about fairies and unicorns, and that’s why fairies are an important part of my book.

Why did you choose writing as a career at the age of 8?

I am 8, it is too early to think about a career. I write because it is fun, and because I want other people to enjoy while reading my book.

If you could be any one of the following, who would you be - Luna or Isabella?

That’s easy! I would be Luna because she plays piano and because she resembles the moon and I really like looking at the moon.

Do you read out your stories to your parents before sending them for editing?

My father helped me type the book while I come up with the stories. If I type myself, I would take forever! But I am getting better at typing. My parents still help me type for the new book I am working on.

How much time do you spend editing the first draft of your books?

I don’t really know much about editing. My parents do that for me. I just come up with the story and with the words.

How do your parents support you in your writing career?

They love my stories and my ideas. It was my father who pushed me to keep writing and publish the first book.

For how long do you think you will continue writing?

I don’t know yet. But I really really love writing and there’s already many more books in my mind. Luna and Isabella can have many more adventures and everyone who reads my books hopefully can learn some things about the many places that they will visit.

What are the steps one should take to start a charity?

I don’t know. I didn’t start a charity. I choose to donate the royalties to the school charity of choice, HoneyPot Children’s Charity UK. This way, some young carers can have some joy in their life especially in difficult times such as Covid.

What common mistakes do writers make while writing about child characters?

I don’t know. I am only 8. I am sure I make many mistakes but I learn very fast. I would love to find a mentor writer to help me with this.

What is your next book which is going to publish soon?

I am working on a ghost story and I am also working on a sequel to Luna and the Magical Piano. I think the ghost story will be out first.

What do you think of AllAuthor? Has this website been helpful to you?

I love the background pictures that AllAuthor makes for my books. It makes them look really beautiful and my father can share them with friends and fans.
