Lev Mikulitski Interview Published on: 15, Feb 2024

Can you share a bit about your personal journey and what inspired you to become a serial tech entrepreneur and author?

My journey was sparked by an innate curiosity and a drive to innovate. Facing challenges early on, particularly during my move from Uzbekistan to Israel, I developed resilience and adaptability, which became the cornerstones of my entrepreneurial spirit. This led me to writing as a means to share my experiences and insights, culminating in my transition to authorship.

In my first book, "MIND BLAST," I delve into this very topic. My career has largely revolved around business strategy, where I've spent considerable time modeling organizational problems. This led me to a realization: the tools available to companies and executives are often inaccessible to the average person. I questioned how one could achieve happiness without these resources. This inspired me to start writing, with the goal of providing practical tools to everyday people, helping improve their lives just as I strive to improve mine.

How has your background in Management and Marketing contributed to your success as a strategist and entrepreneur?

My education in Management and Marketing has been pivotal in developing my strategic mindset. It has equipped me with a deep understanding of market dynamics, consumer behavior, and the significance of effective communication. These skills are vital in my entrepreneurial endeavors and also significantly influence my writing.

Having both studied and taught subjects like "consumer behavior," especially focusing on consumer decision-making processes, has been crucial in refining my understanding of different target audiences' decision-making in various ventures. This knowledge has been a key factor in our success. The foundational tools I gained from my academic background have been essential in my professional journey.

You describe yourself as a strategist of the game called Life. Can you elaborate on your philosophy of life and how it influences your approach to business and personal growth?

I perceive life as a strategic game, where each decision inevitably results in a consequence. This outlook shapes my approach to both business and personal growth, underscoring the significance of deliberate decision-making and proactive problem-solving.

Furthermore, as I've previously noted, I adapt tools and models from the business realm for use in my everyday life. This practice essentially makes me a strategist in the vast game of life.

With your extensive experience in building and transforming businesses, what key lessons have you learned that you believe are crucial for success in today's dynamic business landscape?

The most vital lessons I've learned include the significance of adaptability, the effectiveness of strategic planning, and the necessity of understanding consumer needs. These are crucial for maintaining relevance and success in the rapidly evolving business landscape of today. Additionally, I must highlight a somewhat surprising yet fundamental lesson: past successes, while contributing to general experience, don't always correlate with future challenges. The world is changing rapidly, and everything is shrouded in ambiguity. Unforeseen events like the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the current developments in the Middle East have profound impacts. These situations underscore the need to approach each challenge with an open mind and the readiness to adapt swiftly.

Balancing a successful career and being a dedicated father of three is no small feat. How do you manage to strike a balance between your professional and personal life?

Balancing a demanding career with fatherhood relies on prioritizing and efficiently managing time. I strive to be fully immersed in my current role, whether as a business leader or as a father. However, the situation is often more complex than it appears. Frankly, in the end, it all revolves around the children. They are the focal point of our lives. Indeed, much of our home schedule is organized around the children's classes and activities.

Your project, Mr.Who, focuses on fostering soft skills and creativity in children. What motivated you to start this initiative, and how do you envision it making a positive impact?

The Mr.Who project stemmed from my aspiration to positively influence children's development. I'm a firm believer in fostering soft skills and creativity early on, and this project is geared towards making a significant impact in these areas. Its foundation lies in the challenges I've faced and continue to face with my own children. As a parent, my goal is to extend help to other parents through this flagship initiative.

You're involved in ventures in the U.S., the U.K., and Israel. How do you navigate the complexities of international business, and what insights have you gained from these diverse experiences?

Not all of my occupations and ventures necessitate being physically present in one location or another. The real challenge for me is to always ensure I have trustworthy and capable people by my side, who play an instrumental role in these ventures. This approach enables me to manage and operate multiple ventures quite effectively. For instance, in my UK venture, I have a trusted partner who handles most of the significant tasks, and I have complete faith in him. In the USA, where the parent company of the Mr.Who brand is based, everything operates digitally, eliminating the need for physical presence. In Israel, I collaborate with excellent partners, and we work well together.

Your impact extends beyond your achievements. How do you see your role in inspiring others, and what message would you like children to take from your book, "Future-ready kids"?

My mission in inspiring others lies in showcasing the strength of resilience and creativity. With "Future-ready Kids," my aim is to teach children the value of adaptability, critical thinking, and the willingness to face challenges. This publication, comprising two books, is a compilation of family-oriented activities centered around a world of values and soft skills crucial for children's development. My primary message is directed at parents: investing in your children is the most valuable investment you can make in life.

How did you come up with the idea for your book, "Nourishing Futures"?

I have developed a series of five "pocket guides" that address several key aspects of children's development, such as healthy sleep, nutritious eating, and growing up in an eco-friendly environment. Each of these topics is both intricate and substantial, making them challenging for us as parents. Recognizing this, I decided to create something light-hearted and infused with humor (especially for the cynics) to distill the main insights from my decade of parenting experience for other parents. I highly recommend these concise and insightful guides. They are brief and to the point, perfect for busy schedules, allowing you to finish each book in just one evening. More importantly, they offer a moment of levity, which is crucial for parents. And there is also a book that includes the five books together. One weekend and you've finished it.

Your book, "Sleep Soundly, Child: Mastering Healthy Nighttime Habits," focuses on healthy habits for growing kids. Can you share some key insights from the book and how parents can implement these habits effectively?

The book places a strong emphasis on the development of healthy sleep patterns in children, offering guidance to parents on how to effectively establish and maintain these habits. A crucial aspect of this process is the creation of a consistent bedtime routine, which plays a significant role in signaling to children that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep. Such routines could include activities like reading a bedtime story, dimming the lights, or playing soft, soothing music.

In addition to these routines, the book stresses the importance of ensuring that the child's sleeping environment is conducive to restful sleep. This means creating a space that is quiet, dark, and maintained at a comfortable temperature, free from distractions like loud noises or electronic devices.

Delving into specific strategies, the book introduces "The Art of Tranquil Transitions: Mastering Serene Slumber," focusing on smoothly transitioning children from the day's activities to bedtime. This involves creating a calm environment for sleep and using playful, practical tips to make bedtime an enjoyable and anticipated part of the day.

"Rituals for Rest: Establishing Consistent Bedtime Routines" highlights the importance of establishing regular bedtime rituals that are both fun and engaging, transforming them into activities that children look forward to rather than mundane, routine tasks.

The "Pajama Parade: Dressing Up for Dreamland" ritual turns changing into pajamas into a fun and exciting event, creating positive associations with getting ready for bed and making it a mini-celebration of the upcoming sleep.

Lastly, "Storytime Safari: The Bedtime Adventure Chronicles" elevates the bedtime story from a simple reading task to an interactive adventure. It involves creating a special reading nook and bringing stories to life in various engaging ways, nurturing a love for reading and a calming pre-sleep atmosphere.

Together, these strategies and routines form a comprehensive approach to ensuring children have a peaceful and restful night's sleep, while also making bedtime a special and enjoyable time for both parents and children.

As a parent of three children, how do your experiences as a father influence your approach to writing stories for kids?

As a father, my experiences significantly influence my storytelling, granting me a unique perspective into the world of children. This insight is crucial in crafting stories that resonate with their needs and spark their curiosity. Parenting has given me a deeper understanding of how to connect with young readers, allowing me to create narratives that are both engaging and relevant to their experiences.

My role as a parent extends beyond storytelling; I am also an avid reader and an experimenter. This approach helps me filter and adapt ideas to suit my children, ensuring that the stories I write are not only inspired by my kids but also shaped by our interactions and the lessons we learn together. This blend of creativity, real-life experiences, and the strong bond I share with my children makes my stories relatable and meaningful to other families.

Who or what inspires you, and how do you stay motivated in the face of challenges?

This is indeed an excellent question. My primary motivation is life itself. Living in Israel, as you can imagine, presents its own set of challenges. However, beyond these challenges, I believe that none of us should ever cease striving to improve our own lives and the lives of those around us. I am continually inspired by the limitless potential of human innovation and capability. Facing challenges head-on motivates me to discover creative solutions and to continually push the boundaries of what is possible, driving me to explore new horizons and possibilities.

What's next for Lev Mikulitski? Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you are particularly excited about that you can share with your audience?

I am enthusiastic about several forthcoming projects, particularly the expansion of the Mr.Who brand and delving into new technological ventures that align with my passion for innovation and making a significant impact. I will be revealing some of these projects soon, so stay tuned.
